Abstract: A buoyancy motor is positioned within an interior volume of a vessel and submerged beneath a liquid level of a liquid that fills the vessel. The buoyancy motor includes an upper pulley, a lower pulley, and a belt extending around both the upper pulley and the lower pulley. A plurality of lift arms are hingedly coupled to the belt at a hinged mount. Each of the lift arms includes a connector arm, a float arm, and a float attached to the float arm. The float arms of the lift arms positioned on a first position of the belt are oriented perpendicularly with respect to the belt, and the float arms of the lift arms positioned on a second position of the belt are oriented parallel with respect to the belt. The buoyancy force of the liquid on the floats drives rotation of the belt around about the pulleys.

Abstract: A system and method for a for a wave energy converter device that is an axisymmetric point absorber which operates in a tension only condition over a large stroke that can operate in the given wave environment so as to eliminate the need for end stops in normal operation whereby the wave energy converter device has a floating hull with an interior Power Take Off (PTO) that uses an impedance control scheme for impedance matching with the wave environment in which it is deployed so as to maximize electrical power output as compared with a passively operating device of similar size.

Abstract: A floating mooring system for a single CycWEC applies counter forces and torques to keep a generator suitably stationary for power generation without requiring fixed attachments to the ocean floor or requiring a large frame interconnecting multiple CycWECs. The mooring system uses floats or floatation structure with differential ballasting to counter operating torque and drag plates to counter reactive forces. The floatation structures may be used to float the CycWEC for transport to a deployment location, where changing the overall ballasting of the floatation structures submerges the CycWEC to a desired depth and differential ballasting in the floatation structures counts expected operating torques.

Abstract: A free node to be deployed underwater for omnidirectional energy and data harvesting includes a housing that forms a sealed chamber; a wavelength-changing layer attached to an outside of the housing and configured to receive a first optical signal having a first wavelength range and to emit a second optical signal having a second wavelength range, different from the first wavelength range, wherein the first optical signal includes encoded data; a flexible solar cell wrapped around the housing, the flexible solar cell being configured to receive the second optical signal and generate an electrical signal; an energy storage module located in the chamber and configured to store electrical energy associated with the electrical signal; and a decoder located in the chamber and configured to receive the electrical signal and decode the encoded data. The first wavelength range is ultraviolet light and the second wavelength range is visible or infrared light.
