Abstract: A bearing seal includes a seal case, a sleeve, and a thrust bumper that is disposed between the seal case and the sleeve and that is composed of a material that is at least 90% polytetrafluoroethylene by weight. The thrust bumper has an initial axial thickness that defines a spacing between the seal case and the sleeve when the seal case and the sleeve are compressed together during assembly of the bearing seal. The thrust bumper has a modified axial thickness less than the initial axial thickness after a break-in phase of the bearing seal.

The coupling rod may be displaceable along a longitudinal axis by way of the spiral gear. The coupling rod can be mounted in the steering gear housing by way of a plain bearing so as to be displaceable along the longitudinal axis. The plain bearing is configured to compensate for thermal expansions between the steering gear housing and the spindle nut.

Abstract: A method for assembling a vehicle transmission shift shaft assembly with a shift shaft having a first diameter, a shift lever fixedly mounted to an end thereof, and a step defining a second diameter smaller than the first diameter along a length thereof. The method includes positioning a seal on the shift shaft to abut the shift lever, and positioning a spacer on the shift shaft to abut the seal. The method further includes positioning a bushing over the spacer, and positioning a retainer clip on the shift shaft adjacent to the step so as to retain the bushing over the spacer.

In a particular embodiment, the first polymer can include an aromatic polymer. In another embodiment, the adhesive layer can have a tensile stress in an extrusion direction of at least 30 MPa.
