    摘要: In an apparatus for controlling an outboard motor having an internal combustion engine to power a propeller and a torque converter interposed between the engine and a drive shaft and equipped with a lockup clutch, it is configured to, based on input rotation speed and output rotation speed of the torque converter, calculate a speed ratio of the torque converter and a change amount of the input rotation speed, and make the lockup clutch ON/OFF based on the calculated speed ratio and change amount. With this, it becomes possible to appropriately make the lockup clutch ON/OFF, thereby improving speed performance.

    摘要: A method for controlling a torque converter having an internal lockup clutch includes detecting vehicle operating conditions and executing one of a stored plurality of torque converter clutch modes each corresponding to a different set of vehicle operating conditions. A fully-released mode corresponds to vehicle pre-launch, a partially-engaged mode corresponds to post-launch of the vehicle in first gear, downshift, coasting, throttle tip-in, or throttle tip-out; a first fully-engaged mode corresponds to steady-state operation in second gear or a higher; and a second fully-engaged mode corresponds to an upshift. Slippage across the converter is controlled only during the first fully-engaged mode. A vehicle is also provided having an engine, transmission, torque converter with lockup clutch, and controller having a control algorithm. The algorithm executes a different lockup clutch mode based on the detected vehicle operating conditions, and the slippage across the converter is controlled during only one lockup clutch mode.

    摘要: Excellent fuel consumption and drivability are achieved by properly controlling the lockup-canceling timing in a vehicle with an automatic transmission equipped with a torque converter having lockup features. In conventional technology, the lockup got cancelled when it was determined that the vehicle speed was lower than lockup-canceling vehicle speed B used when the accelerator was OFF at the same time the brakes were OFF. In the present invention (embodiment), however, delay timer A is activated after the accelerator is released (OFF) to set lockup-canceling vehicle speed A, which is slower than lockup-canceling vehicle speed B and which is used when the brake is activated (ON), so that the lockup will not be cancelled until the vehicle speed reaches vehicle speed A and the lockup period can be ensured for a longer period of time.

    摘要: A hydrokinetic torque converter has a main impeller driven by an internal combustion engine, an auxiliary impeller that can be engaged into drive connection with the main impeller by an impeller clutch, a turbine coupled to an output shaft, and a stator which together form a converter circuit filled with hydraulic fluid. The impeller clutch has a clutch member that engages with the auxiliary impeller in a rigid, non-rotatable fashion. The clutch member forms the separating wall between two chambers, each of which is connected by at least one fluid flow passage to an associated hydraulic line, which leads to a supply system and acts depending on its operating state, as an inflow or outflow line creating a pressure gradient between the chambers. Based on the pressure gradient the clutch member can be set in either a first position, in which it is connected in rotary fashion to the converter housing, or in a second position, in which this rotary connection is released.

    摘要: In order to prevent an increase in engine noise during a kick-down, a timer is set concurrently with a downshifting. When the throttle opening degree becomes equal to or larger than a threshold value YTHNST by a rapid depression of an accelerator pedal before lapse of a predetermined time, a lock-up clutch of a torque converter is brought into an engaged state, thereby preventing a revolution speed of an engine from rising rapidly in order to alleviate the engine noise. After the throttle opening degree TH becomes smaller than the threshold value YTHNST and the engagement of the lock-up clutch is released, the lock-up clutch is not brought into the engaged state even if the throttle opening degree TH again becomes equal to or larger than the threshold value YTHNST. Also, when the throttle opening degree TH becomes equal to or larger than the threshold value YTHNST after lapse of the predetermined time, the lock-up clutch is not brought into the engaged state.
