Abstract: A gland seal assembly including a stuffing box and packing positioned within the stuffing box. A gas seal assembly is mounted adjacent the stuffing box, the gas seal assembly including a gas inlet port and a gas outlet port interconnected by one or more passageways. A gland follower is positioned partially within the gas seal assembly and in adjustable engagement with the packing. The gas seal assembly further includes gas dispersal device receiving gas from the gas inlet port and directing gas into a shaft aperture formed through the gas seal assembly.

Abstract: A sealing device for sealing a leakage flow on a machine element, which is circular in cross section, of a working machine includes a housing, which has an upstream end and a downstream end and through which the machine element extends, an upstream pressure chamber which is arranged at the upstream end of the housing, a downstream pressure chamber which is arranged at the downstream end of the housing, and a sealing element which is arranged between the upstream pressure chamber and the downstream pressure chamber. The sealing element is mounted within the housing and rests sealingly against the machine element. A bypass line runs around the sealing element and fluidly connects the upstream pressure chamber to the downstream pressure chamber. A throttle element designed to reduce the pressure of a flowing leakage fluid by a predetermined pressure difference is arranged in the bypass line.

Abstract: A circumferential seal assembly suitable for forming a thin film between a rotatable runner and a sealing ring is presented. The assembly includes an annular seal housing, a rotatable runner, an annular seal ring, and a plurality of groove structures. Each groove structure includes a groove and an optional feed groove. The groove includes at least two adjoining steps defined by base walls arranged to decrease depthwise. Two adjoining base walls are disposed about a base shoulder. Each base shoulder locally redirects a longitudinal flow to form an outward radial flow in the direction of the annular seal ring. The base walls are bounded by and intersect a pair of side walls. A side wall includes side shoulders which narrows the groove widthwise and locally redirects the longitudinal flow to form a lateral flow in the direction of the other side wall. Outward and lateral flows separately or in combination enhance stiffness of a thin-film layer between the annular seal ring and the rotatable runner.
