Abstract: A cooking appliance includes a housing having a heating cavity defined therein, wherein a heat source is in thermal communication with the heating cavity. A cooling channel is disposed proximate a sidewall of the housing. A blower selectively operates to move at least cooling air through the cooling channel and to an air outlet. A vent aperture extends through the sidewall between the heating cavity and a ventilation channel. The ventilation channel includes a narrowed portion proximate the vent aperture, wherein during operation of the blower, the narrowed portion defines a low static pressure region of the ventilation channel that draws cavity air from the heating cavity and directs the cavity air into the ventilation channel to be combined with the cooling air.

Abstract: A multi cavity oven provides improved cavity and jet plate cleaning by directing pressurized cleaning spray into the jet plates while installed within the oven through cleaning spray inlet ports in the walls of the removable jet plates. By directing cleaning spray directly into the interior of the jet plates, cooking juices that fall through the slots and openings and into the air passageway of the jet plates can be pressure cleaned and drained from the interior of the jet plates without removing the jet plates from the oven cavity.

Abstract: A heating arrangement for a cooking appliance, such as a toaster or oven. Heating elements can be exposed in a cavity of the appliance and can have a shield that permits infrared energy to pass but blocks microwaves and/or provides physical support for internal components such as a quartz tube or resistance element. The shield can be grounded to one or more cavity walls by grounding elements that engage with the shield and a portion of the cavity wall. The heating element can emit a greater amount of infrared radiation in one direction than an opposite direction, e.g., due to a convex or other shape of the resistance element. Sets of heating elements can be controlled so that a second element begins to emit visible light at a same time that a first element stops emitting visible light. Convection air can be directed at one or more heating elements, which diffuse the air flow or otherwise prevent flow of air directly to food in the cavity.
