A method for the aforementioned ammunition loading system is also provided.

[Also in Division F3] A projectile feed system for a depth charge launcher comprises two rotatable cylindrical magazines 11, 12 and a hoist 1, 2, 3, 4. The cylindrical magazines are disposed adjacent each other and are each provided with a plurality of open ended, non-radial, parallel sided slots to form compartments for reception of the projectiles. In the projectile feed position a compartment of one magazine is directly opposite a compartment of the other magazine, these two compartments having a common medial plane spaced from and parallel to the plane containing the axes of the magazines. The hoist 1, 2, 3, 4 is arranged to carry projectiles in the two compartments upwardly to the firing tubes of the weapon and is disposed on the side of the common medial plane remote from the plane containing the axes of the magazines. The magazines may be driven in opposite directions by a common driving mechanism. In the construction shown the hoisting tray 4 is provided with guide members 5, 6 which come into contact with the hoist shaft 1 to prevent lateral movement of the tray during operation. Additional storage containers may be provided adjacent the magazines (Fig. 3, not shown).

    摘要: A jaw pivoting about an axis for clamping the shell, a lower end of the jaw receives the shell to allow closure. The notch intended to interfere with a catch of a cam to retain the jaw in the closed position. The cam is rigidly connected to a pivoting lever which allows the catch to be moved from the path of the notch to allow the jaw to open. The lever is to be pivotally activated through the force of an external component. The device includes a first and second spring each acting on the lever in an opposing manner, the second spring being stiffer than the first spring. The effect of the first spring is to lift the lever. The second spring counters the action of the first spring in order to delay the lifting of the lever and the catch when removing the component.

    摘要: To serve a turret-mounted tank cannon, automated loading apparatus includes a pair of arcuate guide tracks vertically mounted to the turret. The guide tracks, lying on radii centered with the cannon elevating axis, guide a trolley for movement between magazine and cannon loading postions. A rammer, carried by the trolley, is activated to retrieve an ammunition round from magazine storage and to ram the round into the cannon breech regardless of cannon position in elevation and azimuth. The trolley is propelled by a ballscrew, while the rammer is activated by a ballscrew and stiff-backed chain arrangement to achieve an extra long rammer stroke. The rammer is pivotally mounted to the trolley for movement between essentially opposite end-for-end orientations to permit round retrieval from ammunition magazines located in the turret bustle and tank hull, as well as in the turret basket.

    摘要: A gun mount having a gun cover or shield contains a gun which may be directed in both azimuth and elevation. An ammunition storage space is disposed below the gun mount. Ammunition components are combined in the storage space to provide an ammunition round with the long axis of the round substantially vertical. The barrel of the gun is elevated to the 90.degree. or vertical position and when the breech block is opened the vertically disposed ammunition round is hoisted directed into the open breech. The round is latched in the breech while the hoisting mechanism is withdrawn and the breech is closed. Thereafter the gun may be depressed to a desired firing elevation and the round fired. The gun is then positioned at a predetermined intermediate elevation angle so that the gun breech is adjacent to a door in the gun cover which is controlled between open and closed positions. The breech is opened, the door is opened and the empty propellant case from the fired round is ejected through the open door. The gun is then repositioned to the vertical position to receive another round in the breech and the process is repeated. Conventional length ballistic projectiles and ultra-long guided projectiles may be handled by the disclosed loading system and the loading may be accomplished at any angle or azimuth or train.
