Abstract: Systems and methods for updating map data are disclosed. A system can include a mobile delivery device that is configured to be transported to a plurality of delivery locations by a parcel carrier. The system may further include a computer readable storage medium and one or more processors. The system may store map data associated with a geographic data. Using the mobile delivery device, the system can receive a plurality of positions during delivery of parcels to a plurality of delivery locations associated with the geographic region. Based on the plurality of positions, the system may determine a delivery route of a parcel carrier, and, based on the delivery route, the system can generate updated map data.

Abstract: A map (1) to be used by a vehicle which can measure magnetism acting from a road surface side forming a surface of a road to estimate an own vehicle position includes a structure map (M1) which represents a road structure and has position data indicating an absolute position linked to each point and a road-surface magnetic distribution (M2) which is magnetic data at each point on the road surface and has position data indicating an absolute position linked to each point. In the map (1), the structure map (M1) and the road-surface magnetic distribution (M2) are associated with each other via the position data indicating the absolute position.

Abstract: A network apparatus, for example, obtains probe data corresponding to a respective vehicle making a late lane change while traversing a TME of a traversable network. Location information indicating a location of the late lane change is extracted from the probe data. Map, weather, and/or traffic data for the location is obtained. A late lane change feature description is generated based on information extracted from the probe data and the map, weather, and/or traffic data. A model is trained using a machine learning technique and training data comprising the late lane change feature description. The model is executed to generate a late lane change prediction corresponding to a TME of a digital map. The network apparatus causes at least one of (a) the digital map to be updated, (b) traffic data corresponding to the TME to be updated, or (c) a navigation-related function to be performed based on the prediction.

Abstract: Techniques for validating operation of vehicle systems using map data are described herein. The techniques may include receiving sensor data associated with an environment in which a vehicle is operating and generating estimated map data based at least in part on the sensor data. Additionally, stored map data may be received and compared with the estimated map data. If it is determined that an inconsistency exists between the estimated map data and the stored map data, the techniques may include determining whether the inconsistency is attributable to an error associated with the stored map data, the sensor data, or a localization system of the vehicle. As such, one or more specific remedial actions may then be performed based at least in part on determining that the error is associated with at least one of the stored map data, the sensor data, or the localization system.

Abstract: Systems and methods for providing one or more map segments to one or more vehicles are disclosed. In one implementation at least one processor is programmed to receive navigational information from a vehicle, the navigational information including an indicator of a location of the vehicle, an indicator of a speed of the vehicle, and an indicator of a direction of travel of the vehicle; analyze the received navigational information and determine a potential travel envelope for the vehicle; and send to the vehicle one or more map segments including map information for a geographical region at least partially overlapping with the potential travel envelope of the vehicle.

Abstract: Disclosed embodiments include systems, vehicles, and computer-implemented methods for logging positional coordinates and additional data for an unmapped route. In an illustrative embodiment, a system includes a computing device including: a positioning system configured to determine positional coordinates of the positioning system; a processor; and computer-readable media configured to store computer-executable instructions configured to cause the processor to: responsive to determining that the positional coordinates indicate that the positioning system is operating on an unmapped route that is not included in existing map data accessible by the processor, log the positional coordinates for each of a plurality of points along the unmapped route in a new map data set; log additional data for at least a portion of the unmapped route in the new map data set; and communicate the new map data set to a remote data store from which another user can access the new map data.

Abstract: An evaluation computing system may implement techniques to validate a vehicle controller, such as based on a detection of a systematic fault. The evaluation computing system may access data (e.g., log data and/or map data) associated with an operation of the vehicle in an environment as controlled by the controller. The evaluation computing system may modify a portion of the map data representative of a simulated change associated with a portion of the environment. The evaluation computing system may run a simulation with a simulated environment, generated based on the modified map data, to determine whether the controller detects and/or mitigates the simulated change in a sufficient manner. Based on a determination of whether or not the controller detects and/or mitigates the simulated change in a sufficient manner, the evaluation computing system may determine an error associated with the controller or may validate the controller.
