Abstract: A method for determining a tightening class of a tightening operation performed by a tightening tool is provided. The method comprises acquiring time-domain representations of sets of observed torque and angle values for fasteners having been tightened by the tightening tool, acquiring frequency-domain representations of the observed sets of torque values, associating a tightening class with each acquired time-domain and frequency-domain representation identifying a tightening operation, training a machine-learning model with the acquired time-domain representations and frequency-domain representations and the tightening class and supplying the trained machine-learning model with a further acquired time-domain representation frequency-domain representation for a fastener having been tightened by the tightening tool, wherein the trained machine-learning model outputs an estimated tightening class for the supplied set of observed torque and angle values.

Abstract: A threaded fastener capable of torque detection includes: a head and a shank connected together, wherein the shank has a threaded peripheral surface; a neck formed at the junction between one end of the shank and the head; and at least one sensing element and a sealing element, both provided on the neck, wherein the sensing element is configured to detect deformation of the neck, and the sealing element seals the sensing element. The threaded fastener may further include a covering element that covers the sealing element. The threaded fastener can be deformed consistently, allowing the sensing element to obtain relatively accurate detection values.

Abstract: Improved techniques for remotely monitoring and managing fasteners and fastener driver conditions, are provided. In some aspects of the invention, conditions of a fastener and/or structural material(s) held by the fastener and/or connector, are monitored by a control system including sensor(s) at least partially embedded in, on or throughout the fastener and/or structural material(s). When an adverse condition is sensed, a torque may be remotely applied to the fastener, in some embodiments. In some embodiments, other remedial actions may be taken by the control system. In some embodiments, such sensor(s) include a magnetizable array, which may include one or more charge-carrying and/or otherwise magnetic wires or particles on, about, or embedded within, the fastener and/or structural material. In some embodiments, such remote monitoring includes testing a magnetic signature of the fastener and/or structural material (e.g., via remote scanning and/or testing).

Abstract: Disclosed herein is a tension monitoring apparatus. Abstract: A foot presence sensor system for an active article of footwear can include a sensor housing configured to be disposed at or in an insole of the article, and a controller circuit, disposed within the sensor housing, configured to trigger one or more automated functions of the footwear based on a foot presence indication. In an example, the sensor system includes a capacitive sensor configured to sense changes in a capacitance signal in response to proximity of a body. A dielectric member can be provided between the capacitive sensor and the body to enhance an output signal from the sensor.

In an example, the sensor system includes a capacitive or magnetic sensor configured to sense changes in a body's proximity to the sensor in footwear. Characteristics of the sensed proximity can be used to update an automated footwear function, such as an automatic lacing function, or can be used to determine a step count, foot strike force, a rate of travel, or other information about a foot or about the footwear.
