Abstract: The present disclosure refers to a method for operating a sorter device in an IVD laboratory system, the method comprising providing a sorter device in an IVD laboratory system provided with a system operation controller, the sorter device having a plurality of sample container racks each provided with reception holes for receiving sample containers, a handling device configured to pick sample containers from and place sample containers in the reception holes of the sample container racks, a sorter device controller configured to control operation of the sorter device and connectable to the system operation controller, and an output device functionally connected to the sorter device controller and configured to output at least one of audio data and video data. The sorter device is configured in a pre-operation process, the configuring comprising: assigning the plurality of sample container racks to a plurality of processing sub-targets conducted by the IVD laboratory system in operation, wherein a first sample container rack is assigned to a first processing sub-target and a second sample container rack is assigned to a second processing sub-target which is different from the first processing sub-target, and assigning to the first sample container rack a first threshold value indicative of a first threshold number of sample containers in the first sample container rack, wherein the first threshold number of sample containers is smaller than a maximum number of sample containers receivable in the first sample container rack. The sorter device is operated in an operation process, the operating comprising: placing sample containers in the reception holes of the first sample container rack by the handling device, determining a first present number of sample containers received in the first sample container rack by the sorter device controller, comparing the first present number of sample containers to the first threshold value by the sorter device controller, and if the first present number of sample containers is equal to or greater than the first threshold value, outputting a first warning data through the output device. Furthermore, an IVD laboratory system is provided.

Abstract: A method for manufacturing a component carrier. The method includes (a) supplying a semifinished or finished component carrier to an automatic or semi-automatic optical inspection device and (b) performing an automatic or semi-automatic optical inspection by capturing a first image with a first illumination; capturing a second image with a second illumination; comparing a data set indicative of the first image and/or the second image with a reference data set; and identifying potential defects; (c) performing a quality classification of the semifinished or finished component carrier by generating a virtual third image indicative of the component carrier under a virtual different third illumination having a third spectral composition different from both the first spectral composition and from the second spectral composition; processing the three images; classifying the potential defects in true defects and false defects; and (d) taking action based on the quality classification. Further described is a system architecture.

Abstract: A method of reading machine-readable labels on sample receptacles. In the method, a sample rack is moved between a first position and a second position within a housing, where the sample rack supports a plurality of sample receptacles, and each sample receptacle has a machine-readable label. An absolute position of the sample rack is measured as the sample rack moves between the first and second positions. An image of the machine-readable label associated with each sample receptacle is acquired as the sample rack moves between the first and second positions. Finally, the acquired image of each machine-readable label is decoded.

Abstract: Multi-stage sample-recovery systems, including automated 2-stage and 3-stage sample-recovery systems, are provided. Such systems enable the rapid screening and recovery of samples, including viable cell-based samples, from high-throughput screening systems, including systems utilizing large-scale arrays of microcapillaries. In specific screening systems, each microcapillary comprises a solution containing a variant protein, an immobilized target molecule, and a reporter element. Immobilized target molecules may include any molecule of interest, including proteins, nucleic acids, carbohydrates, and other biomolecules. The association of a variant protein with a molecular target is assessed by measuring a signal from the reporter element. The contents of microcapillaries identified in the assays as containing variant proteins of interest can be identified and recovered using the multi-stage systems disclosed herein.

Abstract: An apparatus for sorting containers of biological samples for an automation system of an analysis laboratory includes a transport line having a conveyor belt on which are transported carriers arranged to receive and support a container. Parallel spaced apart sorting lines extend from the transport line. Each sorting line is associated with a diverter member transversely movable to the transport line from an inoperative backward position to an advanced position configured to divert a carrier from the transport to the sorting line. Each diverter member, when activated, has a first forward movement to a first position in a middle of the transport line, and a second forward movement to the advanced position, to push the intercepted carrier in the respective sorting line. When the diverter member intercepts a carrier, it is static in the middle of the transport line thereby not producing any cross collision with the intercepted carrier.

An upper part of a side wall of the cleaning tank is continuous with an upper discharge unit at a side facing a discharge outlet provided in the reservoir and a spatula-shaped part projects outward of the cleaning tank at a side facing the upper discharge unit.

Abstract: Provided is an automatic analyzer that detects an abnormality of an electrode constituting a stirring mechanism with high accuracy and suppresses decline in processing capability. The automatic analyzer comprises: a sample dispensing mechanism that dispenses a sample into a reaction container; a reagent dispensing mechanism that dispenses a reagent into the reaction container; a stirring mechanism that has an electrode; a reaction disk that rotates and stops the reaction container; and a control unit that, when the reaction container containing a mixture of the sample and the reagent is stopped at a stirring position, applies a voltage to the electrode and irradiates the mixture with ultrasonic waves. The control unit applies a voltage to the electrode and measures an electric impedance when, during operation, the reaction container into which a liquid has been dispensed by the reagent dispensing mechanism in an empty state is stopped at the stirring position.
