    摘要: A system automatically discovers and maintains geographic location information for entities and devices making up a computer network. The system preferably includes a computing unit and a geographic location generator, such as a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver. The computing unit includes a location discovery entity and a message generator. The GPS receiver, which is mounted to and in communication with the computing unit, may be augmented with an inertial navigation unit to facilitate the generation of location information inside of buildings where GPS signals can be difficult to receive. The computing unit further includes a network communications facility so that it can communicate with one or more network devices, such as a network switch. The switch includes a location recording/reporting entity and a location database. Physical coordinates of network entities or devices are obtained by the GPS receiver and/or-inertial navigation unit and transmitted to the network switch, and the recording/reporting entity stores the physical coordinates at the location database.

    摘要: A car navigation apparatus for determining entry/exit of a vehicle into/from a parking area based on a running state of the vehicle without using a dedicated parking area database. Upon entry into a parking area, the entry is determined by totally checking the speed of the vehicle, the presence or absence of turn-round motion, an error in a forward and backward direction of the vehicle, estimated by map matching, the presence or absence of front and rear intersections, and the widths of intersecting roads. On the other hand, upon exit from a parking area, the exit is determined by totally judging the detected speed of the vehicle, the presence or absence of a straight running distance, the presence or absence of a nearby road extending in parallel with the course of the vehicle, and the width of the parallelly extending road.

    摘要: Positioning apparatus for use in a moving vehicle includes circuitry arranged to process signals received from GPS satellites, and to provide signals in response thereto from which the position of the apparatus can be calculated at a remote station. The apparatus provides, for each satellite in view, carrier frequency estimation signals, samples of the carrier signals and code tracking signals to a data transmission device, which modulates the signals onto a carrier prior to transmission to the remote station. A carrier loop reconstruction device and a location processor in the remote station co-operate to determine the location of the positioning apparatus. A memory device may record signals received over a period of time, from which mission replay may be performed.

Different position information sources are accessed wirelessly to acquire position information. The position information thereby comprises respectively at least information about the position of the corresponding position information source. At least one of the plurality of accessed position information sources is selected depending on the values of operation parameters, such as for example availability, cost, speed, power consumption and quality of the position information, wherein the operation parameters are associated with the different position information sources.
