    摘要: A method for booting a user station in a computer network in which a boot sequence is initiated by retrieving boot parameter information from a remote boot server. If the boot server fails to supply information for at least one boot parameter, it is determined whether a default value may be used for the boot parameter. If a default value may be used, a default value is retrieved from local nonvolatile storage. Each entry in the boot parameter table may include a default indicator for determining whether the default value is used if the boot server fails to supply a value for the associated boot parameter. The boot parameter table may include an override indicator to indicate whether a parameter value retrieved from the boot server is overridden.

    摘要: In an electronic endoscope adopting a two-microcomputer system, an operating program for the two microcomputers can be updated easily and with certainty, and the number of photocouplers for isolation can be reduced substantially. A patient-side circuit has a patient-side processing unit and a ROM installed in a socket. An IO-side circuit has an IO-side processing unit, a flash ROM and a RAM for storing a program-rewriting program transferred from the patient-side processing unit. The both processing units adopt a start-stop synchronization communication method and are connected to each other by two signal lines via signal conversion circuits and an isolation circuit. Upon updating a program in the microcomputer in the IO-side circuit, the patient-side processing unit reads the program-rewriting program and the update operating program from the ROM and transfers to the IO-side processing unit. The IO-side processing unit expands the program-rewriting program in the RAM and writes the update operating program in the flash ROM.

    摘要: A method of and software for booting a network computer with universal boot code is disclosed. Initially, the type of a boot device is determined from among a set of possible boot devices. A command in a high level boot code segment of the boot code software is then translated to a command executable by the boot device based upon the determined device type. The converted command is then executed on the boot device to transfer data between the network computer and the boot device. The boot code is preferably compatible with a variety of boot devices including a hard disk boot device, an NFS server boot device, as well as a TFTP server boot device. In an embodiment in which the boot device is a TFTP boot device, a READ command from the high level boot code is translated to a TFTP read request. The data transferred by the TFTP read request may be stored in a file cache on the network computer. During a subsequent high level boot code READ command, the software interface may determine if the requested data is cached in the file cache, and if so, it may retrieve the data from the file cache. If the high level boot command is a SEEK command, and the boot device is a TFTP device, the converted command may include a TFTP read request. The software interface may determine the relative location of a file location indicated by the SEEK command and a current location of a file pointer and abort the current TFTP transfer if the file location indicated by the SEEK precedes the current location of the file pointer. The interface may then resend a TFTP read request to advance the file pointer to the file location indicated by the SEEK command. In this manner, the software interface and device specific segments can emulate a file type device when the boot device is a TFTP device.

A preferred embodiment obtains an image of the user's fingerprint and cements it according to a random generator. Only part of the image and not all of the image is sent at one time. The random segmentation insures that part of the image that is sent continuously varies from time to time. Therefore, an unauthorized receiver can receive only part but not all of the image. That only part of the image which is received will usually not be the same at the second as it is at the first time. Therefore, a received code cannot later be used to fool the system with the same credit card.

Methods, systems, and articles of manufacture consistent with the present invention load a program file, such as a class definition, from the shared library and generate an interface (such as an object) to the loaded program file. A determination of whether the program file can be exported is performed based upon a status indicator associated with the interface. The interface limits access to the program file if it is determined that the program file cannot be exported.
