Abstract:
The present invention relates to an ultrasonic sensor for detecting double sheets and a method of detecting double sheets using the same, in which in configuring the ultrasonic sensor for detecting double sheets of banknotes passing through a transfer path, the ultrasonic sensor is configured to include an ultrasonic wave generator and an ultrasonic wave receiver provided in pair to face each other in a direction perpendicular to a transfer direction of the banknotes with the transfer path for transferring the banknotes interposed therebetween, and periodicity of a reception signal detected by the ultrasonic wave receiver is determined to detect whether a zero sheet, a single sheet or double sheets of the banknotes pass through the transfer path according to generation or not of the periodic signal and/or a frequency of the generation.

Abstract:
A method is described for checking a value document, wherein measuring values of the value document are detected in spatially resolved fashion. The measuring value detected in the respective measuring point is allocated to a node corresponding to this measuring point, and a two-dimensional network of nodes is formed therefrom. A network is formed from the two-dimensional network of the nodes and a source node and a sink node. By means of the maximally possible flow through the network, the value document is classified as suspected of forgery or not suspected of forgery. The maximally possible flow through the network is a measure for the degree of probability of the value document having a continuous object along a direction transverse to the direction of the network, said object indicating a manipulation of the value document, such as e.g. an adhesive strip or a separating line of a composed forgery.
Abstract:
Document inspection system comprising a transport system for transporting documents along a transport path (12) through an inspection station. At least one ultrasonic inspection apparatus at the inspection station, the apparatus including ultrasonic transmitting and receiving transducers (42,44) arranged on opposite sides of the transport path, and a processing system for monitoring ultrasonic signals received by the receiving transducer. An ultrasonic absorbing material (300) is provided around the transducers and facing the transport path for absorbing Document guide apparatus (312,314), having a lower coefficient of friction than the absorbing material, extends partially over the absorbing material (300) so as to prevent documents contacting the absorbing material in use while leaving the absorbing material exposed to the transport path at least adjacent the transducers.
Abstract:
Measuring the limpness of a note is necessary to separate a worn note out of circulation. Several methods are disclosed which can be used either alone or in combination to test for limpness. One method measures the note's ability to reflect light or transmit the light. Another method measures the response of the note to an acoustic wave. Another method measures the note's deflection to a pressure or force. Yet another method measures the dielectric value of the note when placed between the plates of a capacitor. A final method involves measuring the thermal conductivity of the note. In each case, a limp note will produce distinguishable results from a stiff note.

Abstract:
A magnetic detection device for use in a bank note discriminating apparatus is proposed. A magnetic pattern which has been already formed on each bank note by applying the magnetizable printing ink thereon is detected by a magnetic detecting head of the device. The device further includes a conveyer driven at a conveying speed of V.sub.1, and a positioning roller rotated at a circumferential speed of V.sub.2. According to this invention, the speed V.sub.2 is adjusted to be approximately equal to or only slightly higher than the speed V.sub.1. According to another feature of this invention, the detection face of the magnetic head is spaced from the opposing peripheral face of the positioning roller by a gap D which is greater than the thickness T of the bank notes to be handled. By the use of the device of this invention constructed and operated as aforementioned, the magnetic detecting head is prevented from picking up noise signals caused by impulsive force applied thereon by the impinging leading end of the inserted bank note or uneven compression force otherwise applied thereon by the bank note which is bent on or above the magnetic head when the speed V.sub.2 is appreciably different from the speed V.sub.1 to accelerate or decelerate the travelling speed of the bank note just above the magnetic head.

At least one evaluation subgroup carries out at least one part of the evaluation in dependence on the evaluation information and stores the result in the memory.
