Abstract: A method for operating a MEMS system having a projection unit for providing an image via a light beam, and a deflecting unit for the two-dimensional deflection of the at least one light beam. The method includes: driving the deflecting unit via a reference signal, so that the deflecting unit periodically deflects a light beam at least two-dimensionally, measuring a controlled variable of the deflecting unit that corresponds to an actual position of the deflected light beam, ascertaining a current deviation of the controlled variable from a target variable that corresponds to a target position of the light beam, calculating a compensating variable based on the ascertained deviation, controlling the deflecting unit and/or controlling the projection unit based on the calculated compensating variable for reducing the deviation of the light beam from the target position. The compensating variable is additionally calculated based on an earlier deviation in an earlier period.

Abstract: A display apparatus comprises a light source configured to emit a light beam, a pulse generator configured to generate a pulse train, a buffer configured to store pixels of an image, a controller configured to modulate the pulse train according to the pixels and to drive the light source according to the modulated pulse train, a mirror assembly configured to oscillate and scan the light beam over an image area according to a scan pattern, and a mirror driver configured to drive the mirror assembly, the pulse generator being configured to receive a brightness signal and to generate the pulse train with a low/high pulse rate when the brightness signal indicates a low/high brightness. A method displays pixels of an image with a low/high pulse rate at a low/high brightness.

Abstract: Light of a virtual image of image content is projected by an optical subsystem to an eye location. The optical subsystem collects the light from a first aperture to the eye location. The virtual image is of an object located within a second aperture, wherein the first and second apertures are not collocated. In an associated method, a flat-panel image-display modulator within the second aperture imparts image content of the virtual image onto light generated by a source of light within the first aperture.

Abstract: An optical device may include a light turning element. The optical device can include a first surface that is parallel to a horizontal axis and a second surface opposite to the first surface. The optical device may include a light module that includes a plurality of light emitters. The light module can be configured to combine light for the plurality of emitters. The optical device can further include a light input surface that is between the first and the second surfaces and is disposed with respect to the light module to receive light emitted from the plurality of emitters. The optical device may include an end reflector that is disposed on a side opposite the light input surface. The light coupled into the light turning element may be reflected by the end reflector and/or reflected from the second surface towards the first surface.

Abstract: An image display apparatus 100 for a vehicle is provided with: an image display unit 2 that has a light source and a display element and outputs image light; a mirror 3 that reflects the image light output by the image display unit 2 toward a windshield 7; a mirror drive unit 4 that changes the angle and position of the mirror 3; and a control unit 10 that determines amounts of change in the angle and position of the mirror and controls the mirror drive unit 4. The control unit 10 makes determinations of the amount of change for the angle and position of the mirror in association with each other such that the image is visible even if the position of the driver's eyes 8 changes and the display state of the image with respect to the driver does not change.

Each of the information provision device and the information provision method includes projecting an image light to a light transmission member to display a for-driver information image indicating for-driver information to be provided to a driver of a mobile object in a prescribed display area, and displaying at a first point where a normal for-driver information image is displayed a priority for-driver information image in place of the normal for-driver information image, where the displaying includes displaying the normal for-driver information image at a second point different from the first point for at least some of a period during which the priority for-driver information image is displayed at the first point.

Abstract: A display system includes an integrated laser and modulator device and a display assembly. The integrated laser and modulator device includes a laser component configured to facilitate light emission responsive to applied current and a modulator component configured to selectively modulate light responsive to applied signal. The modulator component is integrally coupled to the laser component via a bridging structure that intervenes between the laser component and the modulator component. At least a portion of the bridging structure facilitates power reflectivity into a laser cavity of the laser component. The bridging structure facilitates transmission of light emitted by the laser component into the modulator component for modulation by the modulator component to provide modulated light. The display assembly is configured to direct the modulated light provided by the integrated laser and modulator device to illuminate pixels to form an image.

Abstract: A display system may display image frames. The system may include a scanning mirror and an array of staggered light emitting elements. The light emitting elements may emit image light and collimating optics may direct the light at the scanning mirror, which reflects the image light while rotating about an axis. Control circuitry may selectively activate the light emitting elements across tangential and sagittal axes of the image frame while controlling the scanning mirror to scan across the sagittal axis.
