摘要: According to one embodiment, a disk device includes a recording medium, a magnetic head, a ramp, and an actuator. The recording medium has a recording surface and is rotatable around a first rotation axis. The actuator includes a first portion extending so as to be separated from a second rotation axis and separated from the recording surface as the distance from the second rotation axis increases, holds the magnetic head, and is rotatable around the second rotation axis. A first support is provided on the ramp, extends around the second rotation axis, and can support the first portion so that the magnetic head is separated from the recording surface. A second support is provided on the ramp, is located between the first rotation axis and the first support, is separated from the second rotation axis farther than the first support, and can support the first portion.

摘要: According to one embodiment, a disk device includes a housing including a base with a bottom wall, a drive motor including a pivot erected on the bottom wall and a hub rotatably supported around the pivot, ten or more magnetic disks attached to the hub and stacked on a flange of the hub, and spacer rings attached to the hub and each disposed between each respective adjacent pair of two magnetic disks. A number of the spacer rings is one less than the magnetic disks. At least one spacer ring has a thickness different from that of the other spacer rings, and a difference between a maximum thickness and a minimum thickness of the spacer rings is 0.01 mm or more and 0.09 mm or less.

摘要: In one aspect, a data storage device includes a disc, an arm, a head, a linear driver, and an elevator. The disc has a read/write surface defining an x-y plane. The arm has a head end that is movable relative to the disc. The head is configured to interact with the read/write surface. The linear driver is configured to move the arm along a substantially straight line in the x-y plane. The elevator is configured to move the arm in a z direction. In another aspect, rather than a linear driver, the data storage device includes a rotary actuator and a pivot actuator. The arm includes a first portion and a load beam. The rotary actuator is configured to move the first portion about a first pivot axis; the pivot actuator is configured to move the load beam about a second pivot axis relative to the first portion.

摘要: A storage apparatus includes a disk-shaped recording medium having a surface, a motor configured to drive and rotate the recording medium, a head configured to read information from and write information to the recording medium, a ramp mechanism configured to move the head from a position above the surface of the recording medium to a head receded position, and a ramp retracting mechanism configured to move the ramp mechanism from a position above the surface of the recording medium to a ramp retracted position. Each of the head receded position and the ramp retracted position is outside a range of the recording medium in a plan view viewed from above the recording medium in a direction perpendicular to the surface of the recording medium.

摘要: An event that indicates unexpected shutdown of a hard disk drive is determined. The hard disk includes first and second controllers that control respective first and second independently-operable actuators. Each of the actuators has one or more heads that access one or more spinning disks of the hard disk drive. While receiving power for the hard disk drive via back-electromotive force of a motor driven by the one or more spinning disks in response to the event, the first and second controllers independently move the respective first and second actuators to safe positions. In response to determining the first and second actuators are in safe positions, write cache data associated with the first and second controllers is written to a non-volatile memory.
