摘要: The present invention is a method of applying variable, momentous production information to each frame of a continuous visual image medium at the instant of use or after use, without interfering with the formation or display of the normal visual image on the same frame. The recorded production information become absolute reference points on the continuous visual image medium, enabling fast and accurate identification and retrieval at a later date. The method addresses various needs in an ever increasing market ranging from major motion pictures to home videos. The present invention is also a system of recording or retrieving the production information on each frame of a continuous visual image medium. The system includes the actual hardware for the writing and reading of the index code, and the software necessary to decode the code and translate it into useful and user readable information. The system offers producers, directors and editors the freedom to quickly identify and retrieve footage for consideration, while maintaining an accurate asset control on a frame by frame basis. The system also maximizes the usefulness and potential re-use of visual materials.

摘要: The present invention specifies a method for the verification of authenticity in a data carrier (1) by measuring permeability to an electromagnetic radiation in at least one region of the data carrier (1). Permeability is scanned over a regional area of the data carrier by means of a radiation detector (7). The output signal of the detector (7) is coded and co-inscribed as additional information in a store of the data carrier with the information data during the initial inscribing of these data. In the reading and authenticity check scanning operation this information is compared with a corresponding additional information stored during the original data inscription.

摘要: The present invention specifies a method for the verification of authenticity in a data carrier (1) by measuring permeability to an electromagnetic radiation in at least one region of the data carrier (1). Permeability is scanned over a regional area of the data carrier by means of a radiation detector (7) first in a calibration operation, in which the radiation intensity is adjusted, then in a reading operation at another position of the data carrier. The output signal of the detector (7) is coded and co-inscribed as additional information in a store of the data carrier with the information data during the initial inscribing of these data. In the reading and authenticity check scanning operation this information is compared with a corresponding additional information stored during the original data inscription.

摘要: Methods and apparatuses for identifying a single reel tape cartridge format, in a single reel tape handling device, from a plurality of available formats. According to one aspect of the invention, cartridge identification information is provisioned on a single reel tape cartridge leader. The cartridge identification information is detectable by the tape handling device and usable to identify a format of the tape cartridge from a plurality of available formats. The cartridge identification information includes at least one feature on the tape cartridge leader having characteristics indicative to the tape handling device of the format of the tape cartridge presented to the tape handling device.

摘要: A tape cassette is provided which has indicia indicating the characteristics of the tape contained therein. In one embodiment an information discriminating mark, capable of being optically sensed is provided on the magnetic tape. Fluctuations in the transmittance of the tape are detected by a photodetector device and a difference in the detected output is utilized for identifying the type of the tape cassette. In another embodiment, the bottom surface of the tape cassette is provided with physical indicia indicating the characteristics of the tape contained therein.

摘要: A magnetic tape drive has firmware which has been modified so that the drive will read both standard format tapes and non-standard format tapes. Non-standard tapes are detected by an absence of reference bursts in the load zone of the tape. The head is moved to successive tracks toward the edge of the tape until no data is read. This identifies the track near the edge of the tape. Then, the head is preset to a track which is a known distance from the edge of the tape. Reading of non-standard tapes is accomplished by disabling the index pulse generator in the intervals between data segments. The performance of a SKIP COMMAND is made possible by counting the transitions of data to no data during the intervals between data segments. The identification of different types of non-standard formats is made by determining the length of the data segments.
