摘要: According to one embodiment, a disk device includes a magnetic disk, a suspension, a magnetic head, and a carriage. The magnetic disk rotates about a first rotation axis. The suspension includes a base plate, a load beam, and a flexure. The magnetic head is attached to the flexure and configured to read and write information from and to the magnetic disk. The carriage includes an arm to which the base plate is attached. The carriage rotates about a second rotation axis to move the magnetic head with respect to the magnetic disk. The base plate includes a first surface and a second surface. The first surface faces the magnetic disk when the magnetic head is located on the magnetic disk. The second surface is opposite the first surface and faces the arm. A component different from the arm is disposed on the second surface.

摘要: A method for cancelling, from servo signals read in a read channel while a write channel is active, interference caused by write signals in the write channel, includes generating a predicted channel response signal from the write signals in a data clock domain, resampling the generated predicted channel response signal using a clock in the data clock domain having a rate corresponding to a servo clock from a servo clock domain, transferring the resampled predicted channel response signal from the data clock domain to the servo clock domain and aligning phase of the transferred resampled predicted channel response signal with phase of the servo clock, determining a domain-boundary-crossing delay incurred in the transferring, based on the domain-boundary-crossing delay, synchronizing the phase-aligned transferred resampled predicted channel response signal with the servo signals, and subtracting the synchronized phase-aligned transferred resampled predicted channel response signal from the servo signals.

摘要: A data storage device includes a data storage disc, an arm, a head, a rotary actuator, and an elevator. The disc has a read/write surface defining an x-y plane. The arm includes a load beam. The head is supported by the load beam, and the head is configured to interact with the read/write surface. The rotary actuator is configured to move a first portion of the arm about a first pivot axis in the x-y plane. The elevator is configured to move the arm in a z direction relative to a vertical surface and is configured to frictionally engage the vertical surface to hold the arm at a z direction position while allowing the rotary actuator to move the first portion of the arm about the first pivot axis. In another aspect, an apparatus includes a stack block, first and second clamp arm assemblies, and first and second piezoelectric actuators.

摘要: According to one embodiment, a magnetic disk device comprises magnetic disks, heads, and a controller. The controller does not allocate logical addresses to sectors of a first area to be specified in such a manner as to correspond to a defect existing in a predetermined recording area, the first area being within the predetermined recording area constituted of a plurality of cylinders adjacent to each other in the magnetic disks, and uniquely allocates logical addresses to sectors of a second area other than the first area. The controller makes allocation of logical addresses to the sectors of the second area different from each other according to the number of defects existing in the predetermined recording area.

The lubricants can be used in conjunction with a magnetic recording medium and/or a magnetic data storage system.

摘要: A disk device includes a first controller configured to determine a first operation amount of a first actuator based on a difference between a current position and a target position of a head, a second controller configured to determine a second operation amount of a second actuator based on the difference, and a processor. The processor is configured to perform a first filtering to calculate a first filter value based on a vibration detected at multiple points in time and filter coefficients, perform a second filtering to generate a second filter value based on the vibration detected at each of the multiple points in time, and update the filter coefficients based on the second filter values and a difference between the target position and an updated position of the head.

The second layer surrounds the second and third surfaces of the main pole, and may further surround the fourth surface of the main pole.
