    摘要: A recording head incorporates a bottom pole layer including a pole portion and a top pole layer including a pole portion, and a recording gap layer placed between the pole portions. The recording head further incorporates a thin-film coil placed between the bottom and top pole layers, the coil being insulated from the pole layers. The bottom pole layer includes the pole portion, a flat portion and a sloped portion. The pole portion touches the recording gap layer. The sloped portion connects the pole portion and the flat portion to each other. The distance from the sloped portion to the gap layer decreases as the distance from the air bearing surface decreases. The shapes of the pole portion and the sloped portion are defined by a convexity forming layer formed on a top shield layer of a reproducing head. The top pole layer is formed on a flat top surface of the gap layer.

    摘要: The present invention provides an write head having an improved upper pole tip-to-yoke stitch. The upper pole tip is formed having an open faced sloping surface at an end of the pole tip distal from an air bearing surface. Preferably the angle of the sloping surface is about 30 degrees. The sloping surface provides a shallow angle for depositing the yoke material over which improves the magnetic properties of the yoke material, particularly in the case of sputtered high moment magnetic materials, and improves the flux flow path through the yoke. As such, the present invention allows conductor coils to be located closer to the air bearing surface without sacrificing yoke material properties and flux flow. The upper pole tip may have a back portion which is formed over an insulation layer located between a write gap layer and a conductor layer. Preferably the insulation layer and the conductor layer or layers are formed having sloping edges with shallow angles of about 30 degrees. An advantage of the present invention is that it allows the yoke and the yoke-to-pole tip stitch to be recessed from the air bearing surface, if desired, to prevent the yoke or yoke-to-pole stitch from inadvertently writing to the media.

    摘要: A thin film magnetic head includes a lower magnetic pole, an upper magnetic pole provided so as to face the lower magnetic pole, and a magnetic gap layer provided between the lower magnetic pole and the upper magnetic pole. The upper magnetic pole constitutes a first magnetic layer formed on a side facing the magnetic gap layer by means of sputtering and a second magnetic layer formed on the first magnetic layer by means of plating, in which the saturation magnetic flux density of the first magnetic layer is set higher than that of the second magnetic layer. The thin film magnetic head composed as above is capable of generating a stronger magnetic field owing to its stably-formed magnetic core, thereby recording on a high-coercivity medium and high-density recording are made possible.
