A LMMHD power generation cell, having a fluid channel in which a conductive fluid is forced to flow in response to an external force. A pair of pressure conveying members such as bellow reservoirs can be used for conveying the external force to the conductive flow. A magnetic field is established across the fluid channel by a pair of magnets. A pair of electrodes is disposed with respect to the fluid channel to collect the electric current induced by the conductive fluid flowing through the magnetic field. The magnets are selected from either permanent magnets or electromagnets. Preferably, the conductive fluid is selected from low-density, low-viscosity, high-conductivity liquid metal such as NaK-78.

A fluid conduit for flowing electrically conductive fluids includes an elrically conductive pipe, an electrically conductive rod extending axially through the pipe and centrally thereof, a first power source in electrical communication with the pipe and rod, a solenoidal electromagnet disposed around the pipe and a second power source in electrical communication with the electromagnet. Activation of the first and second power sources creates an electric and a magnetic field, respectively, within the pipe which interact and result in a circumferential force in the flow with consequent reduction in wall friction in the pipe.

The box is arranged to receive a fluid including charged particles and comprises appropriately located electrodes cooperating with the fluid and means for rotating the box. An end face of the box is provided with a central aperture around the axis of rotation for introducing the fluid into the box. In another embodiment the apparatus comprises a pivot having two parts, each part connected to a respective electrode of the box. Each part contacts an amount of mercury contained in a reservoir. The two reservoirs are connected to a voltage meter. Cooling means for the mercury reservoir is also disclosed.
