Abstract: A lithium-ion battery may include a cathode, an anode, and a polymer electrolyte. The anode may include a current collector. A patterned lithium storage structure may overlay a patterned current collector. The patterned lithium storage structure may include first regions of a lithium storage material characterized by a first pattern. The patterned current collector may include second regions of recessed portions characterized by a second pattern complementary to the first pattern. The lithium storage material may include at least 40 atomic % amorphous silicon. These and other anodes and lithium-ion batteries are described.

Abstract: A lithium-ion battery may include a cathode, an anode, and a polymer electrolyte. The anode may include a current collector. The current collector may include a metal oxide layer provided in a first pattern overlaying a metal layer. The anode may also include a patterned lithium storage structure. The patterned lithium storage structure may include a continuous porous lithium storage layer overlaying at least a portion of the first pattern of metal oxide. These and other lithium-ion batteries are described.

Abstract: Provided is an electrical storage device, having a sealing part with high reliability. The electrical storage device disclosed herein includes an electrode body including a first electrode, a case, and a first current collecting member. The case includes a first wall having a first through hole. The first current collecting member has a first region placed along the inner surface of the first wall, a projection part, projecting to the first wall, is provided in the first region, and at least part of the projection part is placed in the first through hole. The terminal member is connected to the projection part, and the insulating member is an integral product having an insulating part placed between the first wall and the first current collecting member, and an insulating part placed between the first wall and the terminal member.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a positive electrode plate and an electrochemical device. The positive electrode plate comprises a current collector, a positive active material layer and a safety coating disposed between the current collector and the positive active material layer, wherein the safety coating comprises a polymer matrix, a conductive material and an inorganic filler, wherein the polymer matrix comprises at least two types of polymer materials, and the first type of polymer material is fluorinated polyolefin and/or chlorinated polyolefin, and the solubility of the second type of polymer material in oil solvent is smaller than the solubility of the first type of polymer material; and the weight percentage of the first type of polymer material relative to the total weight of the polymer matrix, the conductive material and the inorganic filler is 17.5% or more. The positive electrode plate improves high temperature safety of electrochemical device.

Abstract: A method for manufacturing an energy storage device includes a swaging step in which a swaged portion is formed by swaging a tip portion, penetrating a positive electrode terminal or a positive electrode current collector and projecting in a predetermined direction from the positive electrode terminal or the positive electrode current collector, of a shaft portion. In the swaging step, the tip portion of the shaft portion is swaged by a punch which includes a pressing surface, the pressing surface including a punch-side first concave portion which is concaved in the predetermined direction and a punch-side second concave portion which is concaved in the predetermined direction more than the punch-side first concave portion at an inner peripheral side of the punch-side first concave portion.

Abstract: An ultracapacitor that is capable of exhibiting good properties even after being subjected to high temperatures, such as experienced during solder reflow, is provided. The ultracapacitor contains a housing having sidewalls that extend in a direction generally perpendicular to a base. An interior cavity is defined between an inner surface of the base and the sidewalls within which an electrode assembly can be positioned. To attach the electrode assembly, first and second conductive members are disposed on the inner surface of the base. The electrode assembly likewise contains first and second leads that extend outwardly therefrom and are electrically connected to the first and second conductive members, respectively. The first and second conductive members are, in turn, electrically connected to first and second external terminations, respectively, which are provided on an outer surface of the base.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a positive electrode plate and an electrochemical device. The positive electrode plate may improve the safety performance during nail penetration of the electrochemical device such as capacitor, primary battery or secondary battery and the like.
