    Abstract: An x-ray tube, comprising: a field emitter including an emission surface; an anode; and a focus electrode disposed between the field emitter and the anode; wherein: the focus electrode includes: a first surface that is substantially perpendicular to the field emitter emission surface and nearest to the field emitter; a second surface that is axially nearest to the anode, wherein the field emitter and the anode form an axis; and a third surface that extends between the first surface and the second surface; and a first location on the focus electrode between the first surface and the third surface is further from the anode than a second location on the focus electrode between the third surface and the second surface.

    Abstract: An x-ray generating unit includes an x-ray tube that is substantially transparent to x-rays. A cathode is within the x-ray tube and defines a plurality of spaced apart cavities. An anode includes a material that emits x-rays when impacted by electrons. A plurality of filaments is each disposed in a different one of the cavities. Each of the filaments is electrically coupled to each other and to an activating voltage source in parallel. Each of the filaments emits a focused electron beam directed to a different predetermined spot on the anode upon application of a predetermined voltage between the cathode and the anode, thereby causing the anode to generate x-rays. Each of the plurality of spaced apart cavities is aimed at the anode so that each predetermined spot on the anode is separated from each other spot by a gap that is not impacted by an electron beam.

    Abstract: An electric field emission device includes a vacuum vessel configured to include a vacuum chamber; an emitter positioned on one side in an axial direction of the chamber and including an electron generation portion facing another side in the axial direction; a target positioned on the other side of the chamber and facing the emitter; a guard electrode that is a cylindrical body, is fixed to the vacuum vessel, and has an opening portion; a support to move the emitter in the axial direction on an inner side of the guard electrode; and an electric field shield body formed of a conductor connected to the guard electrode. The electric field shield body partially overlaps the opening portion on a projection plane in the axial direction, and is formed in a shape partitioning the opening portion into a plurality of areas.

    Abstract: An X-ray tube includes a vacuum-sealed tube housing evacuated to a pressure of 10−7 mbar or lower, a cathode assembly inside the housing including an electron emitter adapted to emit electrons when heated at a temperature included in a defined working temperature range and at least one component containing carbon in an amount of at least 20% by weight, especially at least 30% by weight, even more especially at least 50% by weight, the at least one component being preferably designed for holding the emitter, and an anode assembly inside the housing including a target layer for receiving electrons emitted by the electron emitter, wherein the electron emitter preferably includes boride, preferably lanthanum hexaboride (LaB6), and wherein the cathode assembly is designed such that if the emitter temperature is included in the working temperature range.
