Abstract: An apparatus, system, and method for performing electron beam modulation includes an input pulser to provide an electromagnetic pulse; a radio frequency (RF) filter to filter the electromagnetic pulse; a nonlinear transmission line to receive the electromagnetic pulse, and generate a backward wave RF oscillation of a predetermined frequency to travel in a direction opposite that of the electromagnetic pulse; and an electron beam generating device including an anode and a cathode, the electron beam generating device to receive a combined electromagnetic pulse from the RF filter and the backward wave RF oscillation from the nonlinear transmission line to cause excitation of a modulated voltage between the anode and cathode, and to cause the electron beam generating device to emit an electron beam that is modulated at the predetermined frequency of the backward wave RF oscillation.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an LED retrofit lamp adapted for operation with an alternating current. The LED lamp comprises an LED unit, first and second switching devices (e.g., first and second relays), a startup voltage supply unit (1010) coupled in parallel to the first switching device, an ignition detection unit (1020) coupled in parallel to the second switching device, and a switch drive unit (1030) for setting the first and second switching devices to a conducting state. If one of the first and second switching devices is shorted either no startup supply voltage or no detection signal is provided, such that the failure is indicated externally to a user.

Abstract: A light emitting apparatus receives an external power. A switching unit is electrically connected with a light emitting unit to form a serial circuit. A first electrical connection element is electrically connected with the external power and the light emitting unit. A second electrical connection element is electrically connected with the external power and the switching unit. A sensing unit is electrically connected with the first electrical connection element, the second electrical connection element and the switching unit. When filament currents flow between two electrical input terminals of the first electrical connection element and between two electrical input terminals of the second electrical connection element, the sensing unit controls the switching unit to turn on to enable the light emitting unit to receive the external power and start to emit light. Thus, users can avoid the risk of electric shock when installing the light emitting apparatus.

Abstract: A device for heating a substrate with light from a flash lamp having a semiconductor switch connected in series to the flash lamp. After triggering of a trigger electrode of the flash lamp, a first drive signal and a second drive signal are output from a gate circuit. The time period when the semiconductor switch is on due to the second drive signal is longer than the time period that the semiconductor switch is on by the first drive signal. Abstract: An electronic ballast is provided and a method for operating one or more lamps. The ballast and method provide for true parallel lamp operation, with preheating of lamp filaments during a dimming operation. Switching losses are reduced by ensured soft switching operation. Abstract: A light-emitting diode (LED) lamp for producing a biologically-corrected light. In one embodiment, the LED lamp includes a color filter, which modifies the light produced by the lamp's LED chips, to increase spectral opponency and minimize melatonin suppression. In doing so, the lamp minimizes the biological effects that the lamp may have on a user.
