Abstract: A laser resonator includes a gain medium that produces light from pump energy and a variable light attenuator, which receives light and emits either (i) a first light including a continuous series of micropulses, or (ii) a second light including a series of macropulses at spaced time intervals, where each macropulse includes a series of micropulses. Each micropulse has a duration of 0.1 to 10 microseconds, and a duration of each macropulse is less than the time interval between each macropulse, and the micropulses have a frequency of 5 kHz to 40 kHz.

Abstract: A method for generating a spatially transformed optical output from a laser system, the method comprising: disposing a laser gain medium within a laser cavity structure; arranging an interferometric device to complete the laser cavity structure, wherein the interferometric device receives an input beam from laser oscillation in the laser cavity structure, splits the input beam into two sub-beams, and recombines the two sub-beams to provide an optical feedback beam to sustain laser oscillation; configuring the optical components that comprise the interferometric device to provide relative misalignment of the two sub-beams that are produced internally to the interferometric device; using at least a first output port of the interferometric device to provide an output beam of the laser system that due to the misalignment is a spatial transformation of the internal mode structure of the laser; and using at least a second output port of the interferometric device to provide the optical feedback beam to the laser cavity structure that sustains laser oscillation with a spatial structure that substantially preserves the internal mode structure of the laser. An apparatus which implements such a method is also provided.

Abstract: Exemplary apparatus can be provided which can include a laser arrangement that is configured to provide a laser radiation, and including an optical cavity. The optical cavity can include a dispersive optical waveguide first arrangement having first and second sides, and which is configured to (i) receive at least one first electro-magnetic radiation at the first side so as to provide at least one second electro-magnetic radiation, and (ii) to receive at least one third electro-magnetic radiation at the second side so as to provide at least one fourth electro-magnetic radiation. The first and second sides are different from one another, and the second and third radiations are related to one another. The optical cavity can also include an active optical modulator second arrangement which can be configured to receive and modulate the fourth radiation so as to provide the first electro-magnetic radiation to the first arrangement. The laser radiation can be associated with at least one of the first, second, third or fourth radiations.

Abstract: A single arm laser system comprising a first in-phase quadrature modulator, IQM. Abstract: A semiconductor laser includes a first optical waveguide including a first reflection unit and a second reflection unit, and a confinement portion. The first reflection unit and the second reflection unit are waveguide type reflection units each having a structure in which the refractive index is periodically modulated. Abstract: An electro-optic modulator (EOM) for altering an optical path length of an optical field is described. The EOM comprises first and second Brewster-angle cut nonlinear crystals having a first and second optical axis. The optical axes are orientated relative to each other such that when an optical field propagates through the nonlinear crystals it experiences no overall deviation. The nonlinear crystals are also arranged to be opposite handed relative to the optical field. The EOM has the advantage that its optical losses are lower when compared with those EOMs known in the art. In addition, the EOM can be inserted into, or removed from, an optical system without any deviation being imparted onto the optical field. This reduces the levels of skill and effort required on the part of an operator. The described method and apparatus for mounting the nonlinear crystals also suppresses problematic piezo-electric resonances within the nonlinear crystals.

Abstract: The present invention discloses a high-peak-power single-frequency narrow-linewidth nanosecond fiber laser based on a triangular pulse, wherein the laser includes: pulsed laser generated by the laser seed injecting into a first power pre-amplifier through a first isolator, and then injecting into a second pre-amplifier and then injecting into a power amplifier; wherein triangle-shaped pulsed laser with fast rising edge is obtained by using electro-optic and acousto-optic modulator to modulate continuous wave single-frequency laser or a single-frequency semiconductor laser directly modulated by radio frequency signal; single-frequency triangle-shaped pulsed laser is employed as the laser source according to the characteristics of narrow intrinsic linewidth and suppression of linewidth broadening caused by SPM, and the power of pulsed laser is amplified through the MOPA system.
