    Abstract: A method for generating a spatially transformed optical output from a laser system, the method comprising: disposing a laser gain medium within a laser cavity structure; arranging an interferometric device to complete the laser cavity structure, wherein the interferometric device receives an input beam from laser oscillation in the laser cavity structure, splits the input beam into two sub-beams, and recombines the two sub-beams to provide an optical feedback beam to sustain laser oscillation; configuring the optical components that comprise the interferometric device to provide relative misalignment of the two sub-beams that are produced internally to the interferometric device; using at least a first output port of the interferometric device to provide an output beam of the laser system that due to the misalignment is a spatial transformation of the internal mode structure of the laser; and using at least a second output port of the interferometric device to provide the optical feedback beam to the laser cavity structure that sustains laser oscillation with a spatial structure that substantially preserves the internal mode structure of the laser. An apparatus which implements such a method is also provided.

    Abstract: A single arm laser system comprising a first in-phase quadrature modulator, IQM. The first IQM is configured to receive a single frequency fibred laser beam from a frequency locked laser seed, generate a first single side-band frequency based on a carrier frequency of the single frequency fibred laser beam and suppress the carrier frequency, and output a first fibre laser beam having a single side-band suppressed carrier frequency. The single arm laser system also comprises a second IQM in line with the first IQM. The second IQM is configured to receive the first fibre laser beam from the first IQM, generate a second single side-band frequency based on the first single side-band frequency and maintain the first single side-band frequency as the carrier frequency, and output a second fibre laser beam having the first and second single side band frequencies.

    Abstract: A semiconductor laser includes a first optical waveguide including a first reflection unit and a second reflection unit, and a confinement portion. The first reflection unit and the second reflection unit are waveguide type reflection units each having a structure in which the refractive index is periodically modulated. The first reflection unit, the confinement portion, and the second reflection unit constitute a Fabry-Perot type optical resonator. The semiconductor laser also includes a second optical waveguide disposed along a first optical waveguide to extend from the confinement portion to the second reflection unit side. The second optical waveguide serves as an extraction optical waveguide. Further, a third reflection unit formed continuously with the second optical waveguide is provided at a location corresponding to the first reflection unit.
