    Abstract: An apparatus includes a controlled field alternator or utility source of electrical power, a conversion device, and a controller. The conversion device includes a first power input associated with a first power source, a second power input associated with a second power source, and circuitry configured to perform a first conversion of power from a first format from the first power source to a second format for charging the second power source and perform a second conversion of power from the second format for the second power source to a third format for supplying a load.

    Abstract: Methods and apparatus according to various aspects of the present invention may operate in conjunction with a microgrid capable of connecting to a main electrical grid supplying electrical power at a frequency (or other characteristic, such as voltage). A sensor may provide a signal to a control system, wherein the signal corresponds to the frequency (or other characteristic) of the electrical power from the main electrical grid. The control system may compare the frequency (or other characteristic) of the electrical power from the main electrical grid to a first threshold, and automatically provide power from the microgrid to the main electrical grid if the frequency (or other characteristic) of the electrical power from the main electrical grid crosses the first threshold.

    Abstract: An electrical system is operable to supply power from at least one of a primary power source or a standby power source to multiple electrical loads. The electrical system is configured to be provided between an electricity meter and a meter socket. The electrical system includes a housing, multiple contacts configured to be coupled with the meter socket, and a transfer switch for selectively connecting the primary power source or the standby power source to multiple electrical loads. The standby power source includes a battery bank including multiple storage batteries and a control module connected to the transfer switch.

    Abstract: An alternating current (AC) power distribution system may include an independent speed variable frequency (ISVF) generator configured to generate an AC power signal having a frequency that is independent from a frequency of a prime mover. The system may also include at least one AC load configured to receive the AC power signal without performing a full-distribution-power-rated power conversion. In another embodiment, an AC power distribution system includes a generator configured to generate an AC power signal and an AC motor configured to receive the AC power signal without performing a full-distribution-power-rated power conversion, where the AC motor is configured to rotate at a rotational frequency that is independent from a frequency of the AC power signal.
