    Abstract: A vehicle includes a system for charging a battery of the vehicle. An electric motor couples to a charging station. a diode-clamped multi-level inverter and a processor. A diode-clamped multi-level inverter couples the electric motor to the battery and includes a first leg having a first set of switches and a first AC terminal coupled to the electric motor, a second leg having a second set of switches and a second AC terminal coupled to the electric motor and a third leg having a third set of switches and a third AC terminal coupled to the electric motor. The processor connects the third AC terminal to the charging station and control at least one of the first set of switches to control a first current through the first AC terminal and the second set of switches to control a second current through the second AC terminal to charge the battery.

    Abstract: Methods for modifying converter cells for switched-mode power converters, and corresponding power converter cells. The modified converter cells exhibit reduced inductance requirements, enable use of lower voltage and smaller switches, provide improved power density and efficiency, and provide for improved input/output voltage dynamic range. Embodiments of the methods generate converter cell topologies having 3 or more node voltage levels by successively applying a “split switches and connect through a capacitor” operation. The inventive processes, or variants of those processes, may be applied to converter cell topologies that are 2-level converter cells including at least one inductance and two switches, and particularly 2-level converter cells including either (1) an order of at least 3 (i.e., 3 or more energy storage elements in some combination of inductances and capacitances, but with at least one inductance) and at least 2 switches, or (2) at least 1 designed-in inductance and at least 4 switches.

    Abstract: Systems and methods relating to the conversion of DC power to AC power suitable for an AC power grid. DC power is received from one or more PV panels and is converted into DC power useful for charging an energy storage subsystem. The energy storage subsystem feeds into a DC/DC converter that converts the low voltage DC power into high voltage DC power suitable for a DC/AC inverter. The DC/AC inverter then converts the high voltage DC power into AC power suitable for an AC grid. A low voltage DC/DC converter can be used that is based on a differential geometry approach such that adjustable parameter values for components within the converter converge to nominal values as system parameters evolve.

    Abstract: A method of controlling a power converter in a power transmission network. A first amplitude limit value for a first AC current output from an AC side of the power converter is received. A second amplitude limit value for a negative phase sequence component of the first AC current is received. The negative phase sequence component is measured to provide a measured second amplitude. The negative phase sequence component is regulated to flow with a second amplitude that is the lesser of the measured second amplitude and second amplitude limit value. A positive phase sequence component of the first AC current is regulated to flow with an amplitude not exceeding a regulated third amplitude. The third amplitude is set using a function such that the second amplitude and the third amplitude provide a first amplitude for the first AC current that is substantially equal to the first amplitude limit value.

    Abstract: A power converter includes two arms for each phase between DC terminals, and each arm is formed by connecting a plurality of converter cells in series. A control device includes an arm voltage command generation unit which generates, for each arm, an arm voltage command for the plurality of converter cells. The arm voltage command is generated by superimposing a zero-phase-sequence voltage command having a frequency component that is three times an AC fundamental frequency. Phase adjustment of the zero-phase-sequence voltage command is performed on the basis of voltage of a DC capacitor in the converter cell and the arm voltage command.

    Abstract: Novel methodology and controller for hysteresis current control in modular multilevel converters (MMCs). With this novel acceleration slope-based hysteresis current control, the MMC can behave as a high-bandwidth and high-precision current source with much reduced power loss in comparison with the two-level voltage source converter (VSC) with traditional hysteresis current control. At regular sampling intervals, a value of the outputted AC current signal is compared against a prescribed range whose upper and lower limits straddle a reference current signal to which the outputted AC current signal is to be conformed. If the measured value is above or below the range, a current/time slope of the reference current is decreased or increased, respectively, to modify a reference voltage to be imparted at the output port of the MMC to control the outputted AC current signal.

    Abstract: A photovoltaic inverter and a control method thereof, and a photovoltaic system. The photovoltaic inverter system includes a voltage conversion circuit, an inverter circuit, and a controller. The controller is configured to increase, based on an output power of the inverter circuit in a current time period and an output power of the inverter circuit in a first time period, an output power of the inverter circuit when the voltage conversion circuit does not work in a maximum power state. An increase of the output power of the inverter circuit is an estimated power increment value of the inverter circuit so as to stably increase an output power of the inverter while ensuring stable operation of the inverter and safe use of a power component, and improve power supply efficiency of the photovoltaic system.
