    摘要: The present invention deals with the problems related to thermal runaway and over-voltage breakdown in integrated circuits using a series of power transistors interconnected in a parallel circuit arrangement. The general technique described consists of a protection scheme that involves the application of a fusible material to form ballast resistor components. These components are connected in series with each of the transistors in the integrated circuits. The main advantages are significant area and cost savings in the manufacturing of the integrated circuits as well as an increase in their yield, thereby reducing costly field maintenance and equipment returns.

    摘要: A power amplifying device promptly detects an abnormal condition of a load and permits protection of an output without causing power loss. A test signal having a predetermined frequency and signal level is supplied to an amplifier, and the output level is measured. The measured level is compared with the output level that is projected when the test signal is supplied with an appropriate load connected to the amplifier so as to detect a load condition. If a determination result indicates that the load is short-circuited or released, then the operation of the amplifier is promptly interrupted.

    摘要: An upstream amplifier is integrated on a substrate with a digital-to-analog converter (DAC) to form an integrated circuit. In an embodiment, a low-pass filter is also integrated on the substrate. The output signal level of the upstream amplifier is controllable. In embodiments, fine adjustments are made to the output signal level of the upstream amplifier by varying a bias current of the DAC. A software control bit is used to switch between a power-on mode of operation and a power-down mode of operation. The upstream amplifier transmits in a burst mode. The power consumption of the upstream amplifier scales with the amplifier's output signal level. A high degree of matching is attained between the positive and negative paths of the upstream amplifier. This provides high immunity from common-mode disturbances such as substrate noise, clock spurs, and glitches caused by a gain change.

    摘要: The amplifier comprises a power suppl, a current sensing element for sensing a current in the current path of the power supply, a detecting circuit responsive to the current sensing element, and voltage reducing means for reducing the signal amplitude of at least one of the audio signals in response to the detection circuit. The detecting circuit comprises in a preferred embodiment a threshold circuit, and when the current in the current path of the power supply is above a predefined threshold, the detection circuit together with the voltage reducing means reduce at least the signal amplitude of one of the audio channels. The current sensing element is for example a current sensing resistor and the detecting circuit is a voltage detection circuit in parallel to this resistor. The voltage reducing means comprise advantageously two diodes for each channel, via which a positive and a negative voltage limit is applied to the signal path of the audio signals.

    摘要: A system and method is provided to compensate an amplifier circuit for changes in a load impedance in order to maintain a substantially optimum performance for the amplifier. More specifically, if the load impedance increases, then the amplifier is reconfigured to produce an output impedance that is likewise increased. One way of reconfiguring the amplifier for a load impedance increase is to increase the supply voltage to the device. The increase in the supply voltage to the device increases the rail to rail operation of the device. This would allow more dynamic range for the system performance. Assuming the current is substantially constant, the impedance seen the output of the amplifier will increase and be multiplied up to the impedance desired by the load resulting in a more optimum power transfer. Other parameters, such as the input drive and bias voltage to the amplifier can be changed in order to improve the performance of the amplifier.
