摘要: The invention provides a method and system for multicast packet routing, in which only selected routers in a network subset (in a preferred embodiment, those routers on the border of the domain) maintain routing information external to the network subset, while all other routers in the network subset (non-border routers) maintain only information regarding routing within the network subset, including which border routers are on the path from the multicast source device or to the destination devices. The network subset is preferably a domain or other routing domain. A multicast distribution tree is maintained, using protocol messages which are transmitted from leaf nodes toward a root of the tree, while data packets to be multicast are distributed from the root toward the leaf nodes. In each network subset, such as a routing domain, each multicast packet is associated with a multicast distribution tree. The multicast distribution tree is associated with an upstream border router (UBR) and a set of downstream border routers (DBRs). The UBR and DBRs maintain complete routing information for each multicast source device, while all other routers in the network subset maintain routing information only to the UBR and DBRs. A "JOIN" or "PRUNE" protocol message associates a particular UBR with a particular multicast source device, so that non-border routers within the network subset only have to maintain routing information to border routers, while still being able to correctly maintain a multicast distribution tree rooted at a node outside the network subset.

摘要: There is provided a license devolution system for devolving the right of using as to contents. The license devolution system makes it possible to copy or distribute contents while contributing to a protection of the copyright for the contents. Contents is encrypted with a first key. The first key and use information are encrypted with a second key consisting of a media ID for identifying a first storage medium in which the first key and the use information are stored. In order to devolve the right of using as to the contents, the contents is transferred to a second storage medium of a destination of devolution in the form of encryption. The first key and the use information are decoded with the media ID of the first storage medium, and further encrypted with the media ID of the second storage medium of the destination of devolution into storage in the second storage medium of the destination of devolution.

摘要: The specification relates to a broadband multiple access protocol for bi-directional hybrid fiber/coax (HFC) networks and other shared media networks. The protocol supports downstream broadcast transmission from headend to cable modem, and also provides for allocation of bandwidth for cable modems to transmit back to the headend. The HE transmits and receives control messages in either ATM or VL format, depending upon CM capability, the determination of CM capability ascertained by the HE during the message flows interchanged between HE and CM while establishing a data link. Although the present invention is described in relation to an HFC network, it is also equally applicable to other shared media networks. The protocol supports different data access modes such as STM, ATM, and VL; within each subframe of a subframe/frame/masterframe structure. The protocol adapts to changing demands for a mix of circuit and packet mode applications and allocates upstream and downstream bandwidth in response to the a variety of bursty and isochronous traffic sources. In order to satisfy the quality of service requirements of varied applications, while maintaining high bandwidth efficiency, the protocol utilizes a subframe structure with subframe partitioning into regions; one region dedicated to STM payload transmission, a second region dedicated to ATM cell transmission, and a third region dedicated to VL payload transmissions.

摘要: A method and apparatus samples (902) a currently received symbol to form sampled values corresponding to sampling times, and evaluates (904) the currently received symbol to determine (906) its value. The method and apparatus recalls (908) a last previously received symbol and selects (916), from a plurality of thresholds (302), a threshold based upon the currently received symbol and the last previously received symbol. The threshold is known to be crossed consistently midway in time between the centers of two adjacent nominal symbols determined by the currently received symbol and the last previously received symbol. The sampled values are compared (920) to locate two adjacent samples, one having a first sampled value greater than the threshold and one having a second sampled value less than or equal to the threshold. A timing phase error is then computed (922, 924) from the first and second sampled values.

摘要: A method is disclosed for verifying that a check user, a credit card holder, or an account user is authorized to complete a transaction. The issuer of the check or credit card or the verifying entity assigns a security code formula to each user, consisting of two variables: a base code number separated into two parts; and one or more arithmetic modes. The authorized user will calculate a verification code number in a two step process using the two parts of the base code and the check number or transaction amount; he then places it on the check or the transaction slip. Verification can be performed by the issuer, who ensures that a correct verification code number has been entered on the check or transaction slip.

摘要: A circuit for preserving a predetermined timing relationship between a synchronization signal including periodic sync codes and a digital signal composed of successive frames of which the nominal duration is equal to the period of the sync codes includes a delay device connected to receive the digital signal. The delay device is selectively adjustable to impose a controllable delay on propagation of the digital signal. A FAW detector detects a frame alignment word in the digital signal, and a time measurement circuit measures the time that elapses between occurrence of a sync code and detection of a frame alignment word. A delay adjustment circuit is responsive to the time measurement circuit to adjust the delay imposed by the delay device.
