摘要: The particular aim of the invention is cost-effective production of the wall elements for water-cooled, current-conducting electrode bearing arms, wherein wall elements have been developed which comprise a flat profile, which consists of an electrically conductive metal and into which at least one recess is incorporated on the side forming the outside of the electrode bearing arm, which recess extends over the length of the profile and is provided on the outside and the end side with a cover, which is combined with the flat profile by means of welding and provides a closed cooling channel, with in each case at least one inlet and at least one outlet for the cooling water flowing through the channel. The constituent parts of the wall elements can be produced in a cost-effective manner from continuous material, from which wall elements it is then also possible for electrode bearing arms to be produced in a cost-effective manner taking into consideration individual requirements for electrode bearing arms to be produced from the wall elements in terms of their dimensions.

摘要: An apparatus for providing three dimensional positioning to the ends of one or more translating elements which are normally restricted to translation along the longitudinal axes of the elements. A cartridge assembly including a cylinder at least partially formed of a ceramic element holds the translating element at an angle to the center axis of the cylinder. The cartridge assembly rotates within a cylindrically shaped chamber in a lid assembly. The lid assembly is mounted on the port of a chamber where the translating element is to be positioned, thereby allowing the translating element to extend into the chamber. The center axis of the cylindrical chamber of the lid assembly is at an angle to the center axis of the port of the chamber. A rotational drive unit rotates the cartridge assembly within the lid assembly. A translational drive unit longitudinally drives the translating element within the cartridge assembly.

摘要: This invention relates to a method for continuous production of a self-baking carbon electrode in direct connection with the smelting furnace wherein the electrode is consumed. Blocks of a first unbaked carbonaceous electrode paste are supplied to a curing chamber arranged at the upper end of the electrode, which curing chamber is open at its top and at its bottom and has an inner cross section corresponding to the cross section of the electrode which is to be produced, blocks of the first unbaked carbonaceous paste having a smaller diameter than the inner diameter of the curing chamber, supplying a second particulate unbaked carbonaceous electrode paste to the annulus between the curing chamber and the blocks of the first unbaked carbonaceous electrode paste, second electrode paste comprising a binder which cures at a lower temperature than the first carbonaceous paste by heating means arranged on the curing chamber. The second carbonaceous electrode paste thereby forms a cured shell about the central blocks of the first carbonaceous electrode paste. The central unbaked blocks of the first carbonaceous electrode paste are then baked into a solid carbon electrode together with the cured shell by the heat generated in the area of electric current supply to the electrode. The invention further relates to an apparatus for production of such electrodes.

摘要: An electrode for an electric arc furnace includes a cooled metal sheath covered with a refractory protective jacket. A plurality of refractory anchors are fixed to the exterior of the sheath, and the anchors are spaced from each other. The protective jacket includes an undercoat on the exterior of the sheath and a protective layer over the undercoat and extending between the anchors. The protective layer is formed of a refractory material such that, at the operating temperature of the electrode, the protective layer has an inner zone which is thermoplastic and an outer zone which is rigid or which is a high-viscosity melting phase.

摘要: This invention relates to a water-cooled arc furnace electrode comprising a double-walled tubular metal column the two walls being electrically insulated from one another and defining an annular channel between them. The inner wall is electrically connected to a conductive screw-threaded member from which graphite sections depend, and this inner tube defines a central channel constituting a water flow path connected in series with the annular channel via a "spider" in the aforesaid member. In accordance with this design the volume of water contained within the electrode column approaches the maximum, ensuring adequate cooling during electrode changes which hitherto has presented problems in other designs of this component.

摘要: The invention concerns an electrode for arc furnaces, especially for electrosteel production, comprising a metallic liquid-cooled upper shaft (1) and an exchangeable lower active portion (2) of self-consuming material, particularly graphite, whereby a securing means is provided which is electrically insulated against the current-conducting components (11) of the shaft (1) and said securing means detachably connects the shaft (1) with the active portion (2) as well as holding the contact surfaces of the active portion (23) pressed against the contact surfaces (14) of the current-conducting components (11) of said shaft. To further develop an electrode of this type, which also provides the possibility of rapid and simple disconnection or connection with respect to the shaft (1) and the active portion (2) with a simple design, especially of the area of the active portion on the connection side, the securing device is designed as a clamping means (40; 60) which takes direct effect on the upper end of the active portion (2) in such manner that the clamping force essentially pressure-loads the material of the active portion (2), whereby the physical properties of the material of the active portion (2) are so exploited that no complicated designs are required on the connection side for said active portion (2).

摘要: An electrode holder for arc furnace electrodes having a cooled metal shaft at least partially surrounded by a protective jacket of hollow cylinder configuration, generally moldings resistant to elevated temperatures. The protective jacket can surround and protect portions of the electrode holder positioned within the furnace or portions of the electrode holder in a zone engaged by clamping jaws. The protective jacket consists of individual moldings configured to provide generally ring shapes which may be put together to form rings, and coherently surrounding the metal shaft.
