A storage system includes: a storage device having a plurality of disk drives that stores data; and a data storage managing device which is connected to the storage device and has a data storage managing module that manages the storage of the data in the storage device, in which the data storage managing module compares a retention date of the data to be stored with a warranty expiration date of the disk drive, selects a disk drive that stores the data as the result of the comparison, and stores the data in the selected disk drive.

A knowledge base that correlates system parameters with desired stimuli is generated, e.g., by collecting data parameters from the operating system, detecting the presence or absence of a stimula, and correlating the data parameters with the presence or absence of the stimula. The correlation is stored in a suitable memory location associated with the operating system. In subsequent operation system parameters are monitored, and predictions about one or more stimuli are generated based on monitored system parameters.

    摘要: Recovery systems and methods for sustaining the operation of a plurality of networked computers (20a, 20b) in the event of a fault conditions are described. The basic recovery system comprises a plurality of virtual machines (31a, 31b) installed on a recovery computer (30), each virtual machine being arranged to emulate a corresponding networked computer, and the recovery computer being arranged, in the event of a detected failure of one of the networked computers, to activate and use the virtual machine which corresponds to the failed networked computer (20). The recovery computer (30) may be located on the same network (12) as the networked computers (20), or alternatively on a remotely located local network in case of failure of the entire local network (12).

In one embodiment, a control/memory system for an imaging device comprises at least two separate components each including its own processor and memory, and a data recovery module configured to restore data to memory within the control/memory system in the event such data are lost or corrupted. In one embodiment, a data recovery method comprises comparing data stored on various different memories of the imaging device, determining if there is an inconsistency between the data of the various different imaging device memories, determining which data are correct and which data are incorrect if there is an inconsistency, and causing the incorrect data to be replaced with the correct data.

    摘要: Filtering trees for selectively notifying subscribers of events are provided, and are constructed with OR nodes to substantially reduce their size. The filtering trees have nodes representing event variables that ultimately branch to leaf nodes thereunder, and the leaf nodes identify which of a set of queries are satisfied by an actual event. A mechanism recursively merges nodes of trees into a single tree, and uses OR nodes when nodes cannot be combined, to essentially add a parallel path in the resulting tree to traverse. Nodes that can be combined are those that represent the same event variable, and may have data points that are merged into a combined node. Threshold gains in efficiency may be evaluated to determine whether the original trees should be kept instead of the resulting tree.

    摘要: A method, computer program product, and data processing system for recognizing, tracing, diagnosing, and repairing problems in an autonomic computing system is disclosed. Rules and courses of actions to follow in logging data, in diagnosing faults (or threats of faults), and in treating faults (or threats of faults) are formulated using an adaptive inference and action system. The adaptive inference and action system includes techniques for conflict resolution that generate, prioritize, modify, and remove rules based on environment-specific information, accumulated time-sensitive data, actions taken, and the effectiveness of those actions. Thus, the present invention enables a dynamic, autonomic computing system to formulate its own strategy for self-administration, even in the face of changes in the configuration of the system.
