A drive mechanism can be configured to interface with the geared exterior surface of the sleeve, causing the device to expand.

摘要: A femoral prosthesis system for an orthopaedic hip implant and method of use is disclosed. The prosthesis system includes a femoral stem component that includes a core body and a casing that encases the core body. The casing can be additively manufactured such that the core body defines a predetermined orientation in the core body among a plurality of permissible predetermined orientations. The femoral stem component can further include a neck and a trunnion that extends from the neck. The neck can extend out with respect to the core body at a predetermined angle within a range of permissible predetermined angles.

摘要: An adjustable orthopedic implant can include a neck assembly, a stem assembly, and a drive assembly having a first portion coupled to the neck assembly and a second portion coupled to the stem assembly. The drive assembly can include an actuator configured to rotate in response to the actuation signal, and a threaded rod coupled to the actuator and configured to rotate in response to rotation of the actuator. The threaded rod can engage a threaded receptacle of the stem assembly such that rotation of the threaded rod in a first direction urges the neck assembly and the stem assembly closer together, and rotation of the threaded rod in a second, opposite direction urges the neck assembly and the stem assembly further apart.

The system may be configured to allow one or more dimensions of the system to be adjusted to accommodate the anatomy of a patient.

摘要: An apparatus and method are provided for manufacturing an orthopedic prosthesis by resistance welding a porous metal layer of the orthopedic prosthesis onto an underlying metal substrate of the orthopedic prosthesis. The resistance welding process involves directing an electrical current through the porous layer and the substrate, which dissipates as heat to cause softening and/or melting of the materials, especially along the interface between the porous layer and the substrate. The softened and/or melted materials undergo metallurgical bonding at points of contact between the porous layer and the substrate to fixedly secure the porous layer onto the substrate.
