Abstract: A cell washing apparatus is provided to wash a cell-containing fluid. The apparatus is arranged to exchange one or more exchangeable entities from a cell-containing first fluid, and comprises, a first fluid conduit and a second fluid conduit, the second fluid conduit separated from the first fluid conduit by a semi-permeable membrane disposed therebetween; the first fluid conduit having a first fluid inlet and a first fluid outlet, the first fluid conduit arranged to transport the first fluid in a first direction between the first fluid inlet and the first fluid outlet; the second fluid conduit being arranged to house a second fluid; wherein the semi-permeable membrane comprises a plurality of pores arranged to permit transport of said one or more exchangeable entities from the first fluid to the second fluid; wherein the one or more exchangeable entities comprise free haemoglobin and/or blood plasma; and wherein the first fluid is whole blood isolated from a human body, or packed red blood cells. The cell washing apparatus of the present invention aims to solve the problem of harmful species that accumulate in a cell-containing fluid (such as, for example, transfusion blood) during storage and other applications, in which it is desired to transfer red blood cells to a clean suspending liquid.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is an ultrasonic barrier chamber for fluid systems, for example, which facilitates making fluid lines airless using ultrasonic signals. In some examples, the fluid lines may include an extracorporeal blood circuit, for instance, for use in a dialysis process. In one example, a device for monitoring an extracorporeal circuit in which a blood pump is disposed to convey blood may include one or more ultrasonic transducers positioned in a predetermined vicinity of a vent of a drip chamber of the extracorporeal circuit, and a controller coupled to the one or more ultrasonic transducers, the controller configured to cause the one or more ultrasonic transducers to emit ultrasonic signals that displace particles in contents of the drip chamber away from the vent. Other embodiments are described.

Abstract: Techniques for vascular access identification and validation are disclosed. The techniques include: directly or indirectly acquiring an acquired value for a parameter that is a function of oxygen saturation (SO2) of a sample of blood in or obtained from a vascular access device (VAD) disposed in a subject; performing an evaluation of the acquired value at least by comparing the acquired value with one or more reference values; and responsive to the evaluation of the acquired value, assigning an identity classification to the VAD, wherein the identity classification is one of a central venous catheter (CVC), an arteriovenous access device (AVA), or another class of VAD.

Abstract: A pressure output device (POD) for sensing fluid pressure in a blood line set includes a base including an inlet port and an outlet port. The POD further includes a cap coupled to the base to form an interior chamber of the POD, the cap including an outer shell, a pressure sensor port extending from the outer shell, and a tab extending inwardly from an inner surface of the outer shell. The POD also includes a flexible diaphragm coupled to the cap and positioned over the base to divide the interior chamber into a fluid chamber and a pressure sensing chamber, the tab configured to deform a portion of the flexible diaphragm.

Abstract: The present teaching provide an attaching member that is attachable to a blood purification apparatus that includes peristaltic pumps. The attaching member holds pump tubes that are squeezed in a predetermined direction by the respective peristaltic pumps to deliver liquid. The attaching member includes a body that is attachable to a predetermined position of the blood purification apparatus. A holding portion is attached to the body and holds the pump tubes. The body has openings that house the flexible tubes, the flexible tubes allow liquid to flow therethrough, and the flexible tubes are securable by being passed through the openings.

Abstract: In one aspect, an arteriovenous access valve system may generally include a first valve configured to be positioned at or adjacent to an end of an arteriovenous graft and a second valve configured to be positioned at or adjacent to an opposite end of the arteriovenous graft. In addition, the system may include an actuator assembly in fluid communication with the first and second valves. The actuator assembly may include a housing, a driver assembly positioned within the housing and a drive magnet positioned within the housing. The drive magnet may be rotatably coupled to the driver assembly such that, when the drive magnet is rotated, the driver assembly is configured to be rotatably driven so as to supply fluid to the first and second valves or to draw fluid out of the first and second valves depending on a rotational direction of the driver assembly.
