Abstract: A process of making a silica-alumina composition having improved properties is provided. The process includes (a) mixing an aqueous solution of a silicon compound and an aqueous solution of an aluminum compound and an acid, while maintaining a pH of the mixed solution in a range of 1 to 3, and obtaining an acidified silica-alumina sol; (b) adding an aqueous solution of a base precipitating agent to the acidified silica-alumina sol to a final pH in a range of 5 to 8, and co-precipitating a silica-alumina slurry, wherein the base precipitating agent is selected from ammonium carbonate, ammonium bicarbonate, and any combination thereof; (c) optionally, hydrothermally aging the silica-alumina slurry to form a hydrothermally aged silica-alumina slurry; and (d) recovering a precipitate solid from the silica-alumina slurry or the hydrothermally aged silica-alumina slurry, wherein the precipitate solid comprises the silica-alumina composition.

Abstract: Systems and method for upgrading pyrolysis oil to produce greater value aromatic compounds includes combining heavy pyrolysis oil and a diluent to produce the pyrolysis oil feed withleast 30 wt. % multi-ring aromatic compounds boiling at greater than 360° C. The systems and methods include passing the pyrolysis oil feed to a fixed bed reactor having a hydrocracking catalyst that includes pellets having a particle size greater than or equal to 0.1 millimeter. The hydrocracking catalyst is a mixed metal oxide catalyst that includes a binder and mixed metal oxide particles or a supported metal oxide catalyst that includes molybdenum oxide and nickel oxide supported on a catalyst support material comprising a large-pore alumina. The methods may further include contacting the pyrolysis oil feed with the hydrogen in the presence of the hydrocracking catalyst at reaction conditions in the fixed bed reactor to produce a reaction effluent.

Abstract: Modified zeolites may include a microporous framework including a plurality of micropores having diameters of less than or equal to 2 nm. The microporous framework may include at least silicon atoms and oxygen atoms. The modified zeolite may include a plurality of mesopores having diameters of greater than 2 nm and less than or equal to 50 nm, wherein the plurality of mesopores are ordered with cubic symmetry. The modified zeolite may include a plurality of hafnium hydride moieties each bonded to at least two bridging oxygen atoms, wherein a hafnium atom of the hafnium hydride is bonded to the bridging oxygen atom, and wherein the bridging oxygen atom bridges the hafnium atom of the hafnium hydride moiety and a silicon atom of the microporous framework.

Abstract: A method of using ZnO particles for the treatment of colon cancer and a method of using the particles for reducing the concentration of an organic contaminant in an aqueous solution is described. The ZnO particles are substantially spherical and may have nanopetals that provide a nanoflower morphology. The synthesis and characterization of the ZnO particles is also discussed.

Abstract: A method of preparing a cracking catalyst includes converting one or more clay mineral compositions to metakaolin; synthesizing an intermediate ZSM-5 zeolite from the metakaolin, a silica source, and ZSM-5 zeolite seeds; and forming a cracking catalyst comprising a hierarchical mesoporous ZSM-5 zeolite through disintegration and recrystallization of the intermediate ZSM-5 zeolite. A cracking catalyst for steam enhanced catalytic cracking of hydrocarbons includes a hierarchical mesoporous ZSM-5 zeolite impregnated with manganese, zirconium, or manganese and zirconium, where the cracking catalyst has a mesopore volume of at least 0.30 cubic centimeters per gram (cm3/g). A process for upgrading crude oil through steam enhanced catalytic cracking includes contacting the crude oil with steam in the presence of a cracking catalyst, where the cracking catalyst comprises a hierarchical mesoporous ZSM-5 zeolite impregnated with manganese, zirconium, or both manganese and zirconium.

Abstract: The present invention provides a catalyst module for removing harmful gas, wherein an oxidation reaction or reduction reaction of harmful gas is carried out in a self-heating heating carrier. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the catalyst module for removing harmful gas comprises: a heating carrier composed of an electrically heatable heating body, including one or more flow channels inside, and having a porous structure with pores; and a catalyst region formed on at least a portion of the surface of the heating carrier including the flow channels and containing a catalyst material for promoting a decomposition reaction of harmful gas passing through the flow channels, wherein the catalyst region comprises: a first catalyst layer having a first catalyst material loading amount in the pores of the heating carrier; and a second catalyst layer applied on the inner surface of the heating carrier.

The tandem catalyst of the present invention includes a first catalyst having a core-shell structure including a composite metal oxide core and a silica shell surrounding a surface of the composite metal oxide core, and a second catalyst including nano-ferrierite (N-FER) zeolite.
