The present invention enables the production of smaller, more efficient and long lasting wet electrostatic precipitators by the addition of a central bore in the inner electrode through which a first purge flow is passed and directed into the precipitator chamber, perpendicular to the direction of flow of the gas to be treated through the chamber to urge the particulate into the water curtain. A second, larger, cleaning purge flow is also provided to disturb the water curtain such that it cleans the inner electrode of any deposited particulate.

The electrodes include corona electrodes connected to a suitable source of high voltage so as to generate a corona discharge. Laterally displaced collecting electrodes include one or more bulges that have aerodynamic frontal “upwind” surfaces and airflow disrupting tailing edges downwind that create quite zones for the collection of particulates removed from the air. The bulges may be formed as rounded leading edges on the collecting electrodes and/or as ramped surfaces located, for example, along a midsection of the electrodes. Repelling electrodes positioned between pairs of the collecting electrodes may include similar bulges such as cylindrical or semicylindrical leading and/or trailing edges.

    摘要: A submicron filter assembly (24) is added to an exhaust gas controlled destruction and oxidation unit (10). Controlled destruction and oxidation unit (10) treats exhaust gas from at least one semiconductor wafer fabricating reactor. The submicron filter (24) filters submicron particles out of the treated exhaust gas to prevent visible plumes from forming in wafer fab exhaust systems (stacks). The controlled destruction and oxidation unit (10) and submicron filter assembly (24) are ideally suited for use at the point of generation of the exhaust gases. In one embodiment of the invention, the submicron filter assembly comprises an electrostatic filter (26). The electrostatic filter (26) includes a positively charged first grid (28) and a grounded second grid (30). The second grid may include a mist screen for removing particulate build-up. In another embodiment of the invention, the submicron filter assembly (36) comprises a mist eliminator (38) and a HEPA filter (40).
