    Abstract: A surface coated cutting tool comprises: a tool substrate and a coating layer on a surface of the tool substrate; wherein the coating layer comprises a lower layer, an intermediate layer, and an upper layer, in sequence from the tool substrate toward the surface of the tool. The lower layer comprises an A layer having an average composition represented by formula: (Al1-xCrx)N, where x is 0.20 to 0.60; the intermediate layer comprises a B layer having an average composition represented by formula: (Al1-a-bCraSib)N, where a is 0.20 to 0.60 and b is 0.01 to 0.20; and the upper layer comprises a C layer having an average composition represented by formula: (Ti1-α-βSiαWβ)N where α is 0.01 to 0.20 and β is 0.01 to 0.10; and the upper layer has a repeated variation in W level with an average interval of 1 nm to 100 nm between adjacent local maxima and minima.

    Abstract: Devices and methods for automatically controlling a step bit operation in a power tool. The method includes generating, by a sensor of the power tool, sensor data indicative of an operational parameter of the power tool wherein a step bit is coupled to the power tool. An electronic control assembly of the power tool receives the sensor data, where the electronic control assembly includes an electronic processor and a memory. The memory stores a machine learning control program for execution by the electronic processor. The electronic control assembly processes the sensor data using a machine learning control program of the electronic control assembly and generates, using the machine learning program, an output based on the sensor data. The output indicates step bit progress information. The electronic control assembly controls a motor supported by the housing of the power tool based on the output.

    Abstract: A cutting tool includes a base body and a cutting head at least partially disposed within a modular pocket of the base body. The modular pocket is formed by at least one wall section removably attached to the base body. In one variation, a non-removable portion of the base body also forms part of the modular pocket. In another variation, the modular pocket is formed by two removable wall sections on opposite sides of the modular pocket. In yet another variation, the removable wall sections include a clamping portion to exert a downward force on the cutting head to enable mounting the cutting head in the modular pocket using an interference fit.

    Abstract: A machining tool assembly is provided for machining a blank to form a firearm lower receiver. The assembly includes a pair of side plates positionable on opposed sides of the blank to capture the blank therebetween. A template plate having a template aperture is adapted to be removeably attachable to the side plates. The template aperture is aligned with a top surface of the blank and is adapted for machining a cavity within the blank having a peripheral contour complimentary to a peripheral contour of the template aperture. A centering mechanism is adapted to be removeably attachable to the template plate, with the centering mechanism including an opening aligned with a corresponding void formed on the blank to align the blank with the template plate.

    Abstract: A boring tool includes a coupling portion, a shank, and a cutting portion. The shank further includes a torsion release neck, having a smaller diameter cross section than a first end of the shank and a second end of the shank, a first transition to the first end of the shank, and a second transition to the second end of the shank. A torsion release neck has a lower polar moment of inertia than other portions of the boring tool so that it may guide torsional loading and shear stresses in the boring tool away from the cutting and coupling portions to improve the durability of the boring tool as a whole.

Further, a method for attaching or detaching a cutting insert on such an apparatus is specified.
