Abstract: A spike puller apparatus comprises a subframe, a pair of opposed puller arms for engaging with spikes to be pulled via a replaceable puller tool mounted on the end of each puller arm, a pair of horizontal shafts and an actuator to selectively translate each puller arm with respect to one another, an actuator to articulate each respective puller arm for pulling spikes, an A-frame connected to the subframe to resist and/or apply pulling forces to a spike being pulled, and a vertical actuator connected to the A-frame to cause the vertical slide carrier to move up and down along the pair of vertical shafts to effect a spike pulling operation. The respective puller arms are independently controllable, and may be selectively staggered with respect to one another along a rail to allow selective independent and/or simultaneous pulling of rail spikes and/or anchor spikes on opposite sides of the rail.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus are disclosed for tray heads and wear plates for tray heads for a railroad spike dispenser. An example wear plate set includes a first wear plate configured to couple to a first sloped surface of a first wall of a tray head. The first wear plate defines a first sloped wear edge along which a head of a railroad spike is to slide when the first wear plate is coupled to the first wall and a shank of the railroad spike travels through a channel. A second wear plate is configured to removably couple to a second sloped surface of a second wall of the tray head. The second wear plate defines a second sloped wear edge along which the head is to slide when the second wear plate is coupled to the second wall and the shank of the railroad spike travels through the channel.

Abstract: A spiker anvil is provided for use in a rail fastener driving workhead unit. Included in the present spiker anvil is a head with an outer periphery, the head outer periphery including an indentation that mates with a hammer pin of the rail fastener driving workhead unit. Also included in the spiker anvil is a body defining a body outer periphery and a tip defining a tip outer periphery, a substantially flat bottom surface, a first chamfer and a second chamfer, the bottom surface being perpendicular to the tip outer periphery, and the first and second chamfer connecting the bottom surface and the tip outer periphery. Further, the spiker anvil includes a cavity within the tip with an opening in the bottom surface and an insert placed within the cavity, such that the insert includes an end which extends beyond the bottom surface.

Abstract: A portable railroad spike remover comprises a claw assembly extractor that is shaped to engage and secure a railroad spike previously installed into a rail tie. The claw assembly extractor may include a pair of jaw members that are pivotally connected to each other by a pivoting pin and a rotating pin. Each jaw member may include a lower end configured to contact and secure a railroad spike and a pair of upper members interlocked with each other and pivotally connected to the clevis fastener with the rotating pin. When the drive shaft is rotated, the claw assembly extractor and the mounting flange may move inside the main housing in a vertical direction to extract the railroad spike from the rail tie.

Abstract: A singulator for sorting a single item from a supply of such items stored randomly in bulk is provided, including at least one primary vertically reciprocating elevator defining a platform reciprocating between first lower position in which the platform receives and holds an initially limited number of the items delivered from bulk storage, and a first upper position in which the items are delivered to at least one secondary elevator.
