    摘要: The present disclosure provides a transmission clutch assembly having a drum, a brake band, a smart material band and an electrical circuit. The brake band substantially encircles the drum and includes first and second ends, a high friction inner surface, and a low friction outer surface. The smart material band includes a beginning end and a terminating end wherein the beginning end of the smart material band is coupled to the second end of the brake band while the terminating end of the smart material band is coupled to the first end of the brake band. The electrical circuit transfers an electrical current to the smart material band. The smart material band contracts when the electrical current is applied to the smart material band thereby drawing the first and second ends of the brake band closer and contracting the brake hand against the drum to restrict drum movement.

    摘要: Components for an automatic motor vehicle transmission including a band brake drum, a clutch housing or hub having a seal surface or a clutch housing or hub utilized in a friction clutch assembly having a spline set. All of these components are fabricated of aluminum and the outer surface of the band brake drum, the housing or hub sealing surface and the area of the spline set includes a thin coating of a thermally sprayed steel material. The thermally sprayed steel material may be a low carbon steel such as SAE 1008 or 1010, a similar alloy, iron or other metal. The resulting components thus exhibit the weight saving of aluminum while providing excellent service life due to the enhanced strength and wear resistance provided by the thermally sprayed steel coating.

The method further includes unlocking the handle from the lever to permit pivotal movement between the handle and the lever and automatically positioning the lever to apply the brake.

    摘要: An emergency braking system for a vehicle, said system being independent of the primary service braking system for the vehicle, wherein the system includes a first cone-shaped copper brake member mounted coaxially on the vehicle drive shaft for limited axial movement but is prevented from rotation by cooperation with a housing fixed to the vehicle chassis, and a second cone-shaped copper brake member fixed coaxially on the drive shaft for rotation with the drive shaft and telescopically received in the first brake member. A cable extends from the first brake member to the cabin of the vehicle so that the driver can move the first brake member axially into contact with the second brake member to slow or stop the vehicle. The first brake member is normally biased out of contact with the second brake member.

    摘要: The present disclosure relates to a miniature precision clamping assembly driven by a shape memory alloy actuator wire (SMA wire) which may be employed within a braking or clutch system. The clamping assembly includes a first clamping element, a second clamping element and an SMA wire connected to the first and second clamping elements by being interwoven through a plurality of pressure amplifiers located on the exterior surfaces of the first and second clamping elements. Both the first and second clamping elements are configured to be positioned about a rotatable shaft and move in translation to the shaft via a transition action of the SMA wire between a clamping and releasing position. By energizing the SMA wire a contracting or compressing action is generated thereby causing the first and second clamping elements to move into engagement with the one shaft for inhibiting rotational movement.
