The gasket assembly comprises a primary seal (10), wherein the primary seal comprises a first sealing surface (14) adapted to form a seal with the first body of said respective bodies, and a second sealing surface (15) adapted to form a seal with the second body of said respective bodies. The primary seal is coupled to a primary seal carrier (30), the primary seal carrier comprising one or more secondary seals (43a, 43b), the one or more secondary seals being adapted to form a seal with one or more of the first and second bodies.

    摘要: A seal arrangement includes a seal assembly and a seal subassembly in operable contact with the seal assembly. The seal subassembly is configured to impart energy to the seal assembly to promote sealing of the seal assembly with a mating surface. A non-sealing feature of the seal subassembly depends from the seal subassembly and is interactive with a load shoulder of a structure adjacent the seal subassembly. The seal arrangement redirects a mechanical load path through the seal subassembly to the non-sealing feature, during use. A method of protecting a seal subassembly from reverse loading is by redirecting a load path through a seal subassembly to a non-sealing feature, while also permitting pressure energizing of the seal assembly by the seal subassembly in a sealing direction. A downhole system includes a borehole in a formation, a string in the borehole, and a seal.

    摘要: A pressure retained gasket seal provides enhanced resistance to hydraulic unloading by including a notch formed in a rear face of the gasket groove, thereby reducing intrusion of process fluid behind the gasket and improving hydraulic retention of the gasket seal. Embodiments increase the process fluid pressure limit of the gasket seal by a factor of two or three compared to gasket seals of the prior art. In embodiments, the gasket groove has a dovetail cross-section, thereby increasing resistance to process fluid pressure by requiring compression of the gasket before it can be dislodged from the groove. Embodiments form the gasket from flexible graphite, which can be initially shaped as an annulus and then forced by an applied load into the gasket groove in conformance with the notch. Embodiments include compressing the graphite to within 50% or even 70% of its maximum density during installation thereof.

In another practice, the a solid annular metal substrate is used and a plurality of carbon nanotubes that extend into the shaft hole each have a first end attached to the inner periphery whereby the second end extends into the shaft hole.     摘要: High temperature dryer seals and related methods are provided. A high temperature dryer seal can include a first substrate having first and second ends and first and second sides. The first substrate can include a low-melt polymer. The first end and the second end of the first substrate can secured together so that the first substrate forms at least a portion of an annular shape. The dryer seal can also include a second substrate secured to the first substrate at the second side of the first substrate. The second substrate can include a high temperature material that has a higher melting point than the low-melt polymer of the first substrate. The dryer seal also includes a heat resistant coating attached to the second substrate with the heat resistant coating being activated at a temperature that is higher than a melting point of the low-melt polymer.
