摘要:
Shock resistant mounting structures for fuze systems. The shock resistant mounting structures may comprise: a shock resistant base cap and a shock resistant washer. The shock resistant base cap may comprise a circular cap housing and a plurality of first cripple studs disposed within the circular cap housing. The circular cap housing may be configured to engage a flange end of a fuze and may be adapted to snugly fit within a fuze well. The shock resistant washer may comprise a ring-shaped housing and one or more second cripple studs radially disposed within the ring-shaped housing. The ring-shaped housing may have a center opening adapted to engage a fuze body. When installed, the shock resistant base cap and shock resistant washer may be disposed within the fuze well and may minimize or divert shock loading energy from entering a fuze.

Various types of structures, along with associated systems, are disclosed herein and configured for responding to an energy wave for changing a state of a mechanism to which said structures are operatively coupled. In at least one embodiment, the structure provides a material selectively changeable upon exposure to the energy wave to cause at least a portion of the material to mechanically degrade from a first state to a second state. When the material is in the first state, the material forms a mechanical or electrical link with the mechanism such that a force or an electrical current can be transmitted through the structure. When the material is in the second state, degradation of at least the portion of the material disrupts the mechanical or electrical link and inhibits transmission of the force or electrical current through the structure.

The present invention provides an ammunition disabling system for selectively disabling ammunition that is operatively coupled to a selectively changeable material. In the operative state the material permits transmission of a percussive impact through the material for enabling firing of the ammunition; and in the deactivated state the material inhibits transmission of the percussion wave through the material for preventing firing of the ammunition. The ammunition disabling system includes an energy wave generator with an energy wave source that emits an energy wave at a frequency resonant a natural frequency of the material. When the ammunition with the material are exposed to the energy wave, the energy wave induces a response (physical and/or chemical) in the material that results in a mechanical change in the material from the operative state to the deactivated state by degrading the mechanical structure of the material.

A device and method that employs a detonation event as an energy source for producing a pyrotechnic output. The device includes an initiation charge that is selectively detonated by an exploding foil initiator. Byproducts from the detonation event are attenuated by a barrier that is disposed between the initiation charge and an ignition charge. The barrier participates in a chemical reaction with the detonation byproducts to oxidize and burn. In this regard, the barrier serves as a fuel that is employed to ignite the ignition charge. The device includes a sealed housing in which the initiator, initiation charge and ignition charges are housed. The housing ruptures in response to the heat and pressure generated by the ignited ignition charge to release the pyrotechnic output.

A submunition unit for a spin stabilized carrier projectile (1), with the submunition unit including an antenna disposed at the nose of its casing (7), and with the antenna (5) being covered by a protective cover (6). The casing (7) and the protective cover (6) are provided with respective axially overlapping collars (8, 9) which are each provided with respective opposed circumferential grooves (14, 15) to form an annular recess to accommodate an elastic securing ring (16). The securing ring, which is normally positioned within the innermost of the circumferential grooves, expands under the influence of centrifugal forces to connect the casing and protective cover together in a form-locking manner.

To avoid impact damage to the fuze well of an artillery projectile when its accidentally dropped during handling, a plastically deformable safety collar is affixed around the fuze well, and a threaded lift plug is secured within the fuze well to clamp the collar around the fuze well.

Projectiles utilizing proximity fuzes wherein the windshield structure thereof is capable of withstanding the buildup of static electrical charges on the surface thereof resulting in the prevention of premature functioning of said fuzes comprising in combination a conical windshield portion and a cylindrical base portion. The conical windshield comprises an electrically conductive surface capable of withstanding and rapidly dispersing electrical charges on the surface and having a surface resistivity of between about 1.0 and 200 megohms per square.

A protective shield for an impact fuze that will permit penetration of foliage, rain, and other material without premature explosion. This protective shield is capable of discriminating between the ground and other material while permitting the firing device to retain its high impact sensitivity by providing a mesh like structure for protection against solid objects and drainage holes to protect against fluid build up. The invention described herein may be manufactured, used and licensed by or for the Government for governmental purposes without the payment to us of any royalty thereon.

An ignition band and nozzle cover assembly for use on rocket motors. A cover molded from high impact strength plastic is provided with a groove around its outside diameter and recessed areas in its top. An ignition band is positioned within the groove and is provided with a contact band and shorting tab which fit into the recess on the cover top. Removal of the shorting tab unshorts the ignition band and, thus, the rocket motor. To reshorten the rocket motor, a shorting clip is provided which fits beneath the contact band and into the recess in the cover top. The cover assembly protects against dust and/or moisture entering the inside of the rocket motor and acts as a high impact protection for the aft end of the motor by absorbing impact. The ignition and contact bands are also shielded from damage by being positioned within recesses in the cover assembly.
