Abstract: A method for aligning a workpiece in a working space of a machine tool having a numerical control system uses a probe. 3D models of the working space, probe, and workpiece are virtually displayed. The workpiece is positioned in the working space and the virtual workpiece is positioned in the virtual working space so that there is an initial coincidence between positions thereof. The probe is manually positioned relative to the workpiece, wherein a planned probing point and probing direction are selected based on a minimum distance of the virtual probe from the virtual workpiece, and are displayed. Enabling of the probing is based on quality of the planned probing point, and, when enabled, a probing operation is triggered, and coordinates of a probing point are determined. The position of the workpiece is recalculated using these coordinates, and the position of the virtual workpiece is updated.

Abstract: An electric discharge machine is provided. The electric discharge machine includes: an axis drive part moving a tool electrode in at least one axial direction; and a sensor unit detecting a linear movement position of the axis drive part in the axial direction. The sensor unit includes a measurement scale having a linear shape, a position detector scanning the measurement scale and obtaining position information, and a pair of adjustment blocks fixed to both ends of the measurement scale or the position detector and erected perpendicular to an extension direction of the measurement scale. The adjustment blocks are fixed to the axis drive part and are curved in the axial direction due to a temperature change.

Abstract: A freeplay measurement tool is disclosed. The freeplay measurement tool comprises a first measuring device configured to be removably coupled to a first structure and a second measuring device configured to be removably coupled to a second structure. The first structure and the second structure are connected via a joint. The freeplay measurement tool also comprises at least one load cell and a loading sling. The loading sling comprises a spreader bar, a first retention member, fixed to a forward end of the spreader bar and the load cell, a second retention member, fixed to an aft end of the spreader bar and the load cell, and at least one loading pad coupled to and extending from the spreader bar. When the first measuring device and the second measuring device are coupled to the first structure and the second structure, respectively, the spreader bar is positionable adjacent to a loading surface of the second structure so that the at least one loading pad applies a predetermined external load only to the loading surface of the second structure.

Abstract: A measuring probe for a coordinate measuring machine is provided. The measuring probe includes a stylus position detection portion, signal processing and control circuitry and a temperature dependent compensation portion. The stylus position detection portion includes a field generating coil configuration and a sensing coil configuration. The temperature dependent compensation portion includes a temperature dependent component that is coupled to a field generating coil of the field generating coil configuration such that a change in a characteristic of the temperature dependent component due to an increase in temperature of the temperature dependent component causes relatively more current to flow through the field generating coil when driven by the coil drive signal than if the characteristic of the temperature dependent component had not changed. Such implementations are configured to increase the accuracy of the processed signals by at least partially compensating for certain affects that occur due to temperature changes.
