    摘要: Apparatus and method for transferring data in a data storage system, such as but not limited to a hard disc drive (HDD). An optical link is provided between an analog front end (AFE) of a data storage device controller circuit (SOC) and a preamplifier/driver circuit (preamp) mounted to a rotary actuator to transfer an analog domain signal. A selected component is extracted from the signal using a modulation element such as a micro-resonance ring (MRR) or a Mach-Zehnder Interferometer Modulation (MZM) device. The extracted component is forwarded to a processing circuit to facilitate a transfer of data between a local memory and a non-volatile memory (NVM). The optical link includes a flexible portion in a flex circuit affixed to the rotary actuator and which supports the preamp. Multiplexed read, write, and power control signals are concurrently transmitted via the optical link. The link can concurrently service multiple head-disc assemblies (HDAs).

    摘要: A bias control method of a nested optical modulator includes detecting a frequency component that has a frequency equal to a frequency of a dither signal and that is included in an output of the optical modulator, with changing a voltage value of a first bias, to measure a first error-detection value, obtaining a first error-detection curve representing a relationship between the first error-detection value and the voltage of the first bias, obtaining a first correction value based on the first error-detection curve, and obtaining the first error-detection value obtained when the first bias voltage value is equal to a voltage value obtained by adding the first correction value to the first bias voltage value at a zero-crossing point of the first error-detection curve, as a first error control value. The first bias is controlled so that the first error-detection value is the first error control value.

    摘要: An apparatus includes a lithium niobate (LN) layer, and a planar electro-optical modulator having at least one hybrid optical core segment formed of a portion of the LN layer and an optical guiding rib. The optical guiding rib may be located in a top silicon layer of a silicon photonics (SiP) chip, to which a thin-film LN chip is flip-chip mounted, and may be coupled to optical waveguide cores in a first silicon core layer of the SiP chip. One or more drive electrodes are disposed between a substrate of the SiP chip and the LN layer. In some embodiments hybrid optical core segments may include silicon nitride core segments and may form an MZM configured to be differentially or dual-differentially driven.
