    摘要: A method, apparatus, and system are provided for implementing spin-torque oscillator sensing with an enhanced integrated demodulator for hard disk drives. The demodulator receives an input signal from a STO read sensor having an oscillation frequency ω related to the strength of the detected magnetic signal field. The demodulator includes a pair of mixers coupled to a quadrature reference oscillator with respective quadrature components cos(ω0t), and sin(ω0t) of the quadrature reference oscillator being mixed with a received input signal to form signals at the sum and difference frequencies, ω±ω0. Each of these mixer products is lowpass filtered by a respective a lowpass filter to remove the sum frequency components for providing a demodulator output signal that is directly proportional the STO oscillation frequency ω. The demodulator output signal is used for processing by data detection electronics.

    摘要: The invention relates to a data modulation method applicable to make data streams tend to have desired properties, useful for clock recovery, making signals more distinguishable, or enforcing run-length conditions. A stream of input data and a corresponding stream of output data are grouped into elements of a finite field. Input elements of said input data are modified by a transform generating output elements of the output data, such that a current output element is a linear combination of a current input element and at least one previous output element. A multiplier applied to at least one previous output element is a non-zero and non-unity element of the finite field. A set of initial conditions inherent to the transform, is selected such that the output elements resulting from the transform tend to have the desired property.

If insufficient information is readable from a disc, it may be obtained through a computer network. The system includes a data input device for entering disc catalogue data and a data output device such as a display for displaying disc catalogue data. The data input and output devices may be input buttons and a display on a remote control. Each disc and related information is associated with an identifier such that access to disc data may be by restricted by user identifier or content ratings.

    摘要: A disk drive is disclosed including a disk having a plurality of data tracks, wherein each data track comprises a plurality of data sectors and a plurality of servo sectors, and each servo sector comprises a plurality of servo bursts. A data path comprising a data decoder decodes a data read signal generated as a head passes over the data sectors, and a servo path demodulates a servo read signal generated as the head passes over the servo bursts. The servo path comprises a low pass filter operable to extract a low frequency component from the servo read signal, wherein the low pass filter does not operate on the data read signal. The servo path further comprises a subtractor operable to subtract the low frequency component from the servo read signal to generate a servo burst signal, and a servo demodulator operable to demodulate the servo burst signal.

With this arrangement, it is possible to effectively compensate for the nonlinearity of a magnetic recording and reproducing system even in the case of a wide deviation. Also, the envelope levels of the portions of a frequency-modulated signal which are formed by frequency-modulating portions of a signal whose levels differ from each other, are extracted to adjust the equalizing characteristics of the equalizing circuit in accordance with the difference between the levels, whereby variations in the characteristics of a reproduction equalizing circuit due to variations with time can be appropriately compensated for.

    摘要: In a frequency modulator (1) having an adjusting circuit by which frequency modulator an applied luminance signal of a color video signal that contains synchronization pulses is frequency modulated, while the chrominance signal of the color video signal is modulated on a carrier, that has a quiescent frequency if no color information is available. A capacitor is provided for an automatic mode of operation, and is charged or discharged, respectively, in dependence on the period duration of the modulator output signal and in dependence on the period duration of the quiescent frequency of the chrominance carrier. The steepness of the voltage/frequency characteristic curve of the modulator is set dependent upon the charge condition of the capacitor, while the charging-to-discharging ratio is selected such that the charge of the capacitor is maintained constant on average, if the modulator frequency is equal to a predefined nominal frequency and increases or decreases, respectively, if the modulator frequency falls short of or exceeds the nominal frequency during the synchronization pulses.
