摘要: A multimode optical waveguide network comprises a parent waveguide and a plurality of child waveguides. Each waveguide is a multimode optical waveguide having a first surface region, multiple second surface regions, and at least one guiding element attached to a surface of the waveguide or embedded within the waveguide, each second surface region of the parent waveguide optically coupled to the first surface region of a corresponding child waveguide. The guiding element(s) of the parent waveguide is arranged to guide a beam, from or to its first surface region, to or from any selected second surface region of its multiple second surface regions. The guiding element(s) of each of the waveguides is configurable for selecting the second surface region of that waveguide and/or responsive to at least one beam characteristic for selecting the second surface region of that waveguide via modulation of the at least one beam characteristic.

摘要: An optical film includes a first diffraction layer, a second diffraction layer, and a cover layer. The first diffraction layer includes a plurality of first diffraction gratings arranged in the same direction on a surface thereof. The second diffraction layer includes a plurality of second diffraction gratings arranged in the same direction gap-filled the first diffraction gratings of the first diffraction layer, wherein the directions of the first diffraction gratings and the second diffraction gratings are parallel to each other. The cover layer is formed on the second diffraction gratings of the second diffraction layer. At least one of the first diffraction layer, the second diffraction layer and the cover layer contains dyes, and therefore, the optical film can reduce the light leakage defect of a conventional liquid crystal display in a large viewing angles and make the liquid crystal display have uniform dark-state images and colorful images.

摘要: Provided is a recording method with which wasteful consumption of the M number (M/#) of the recording material is prevented, and with which the recording density is improved. An optical information recording device that utilizes interference between signal light and reference light to record information on an optical information recording medium is equipped with: a light source that emits light toward an optical recording medium; a beam-splitting element that splits the emission light emitted from the light source into signal light and reference light; and a reference light angle control unit that controls the incidence angle of the reference light with respect to the optical information recording medium. The optical recording medium is irradiated with the signal light as a spherical wave and is irradiated with the reference light as a planar wave, and when information is recorded on the optical information recording medium, the optical information recording medium is irradiated such that there exists in the interior of the optical information recording medium a region which is exposed only to the signal light, a region which is exposed only to the reference light, and a region which is exposed to overlapping signal light and reference light.

摘要: An optical tape data storage is disclosed. An optical tape includes a substrate in a linear thin film shape and a recording layer deposited on the substrate. An irreversible optically detectable change is formed in the recording layer upon application of energy to the recording layer such that data is recorded on the recording layer by forming optically detectable changes. The recording layer may comprise a metal, a metal alloy, a metal oxide, a metalloid, or any combination thereof. The optical tape may further include an adhesion promotion layer for improving adhesion of the recording layer and the substrate, a reflective layer for providing optical contrast to an adjacent layer, and/or an absorptive layer positioned adjacent to the recording layer to absorb ablatable material not entirely ablated during ablation.

摘要: An apparatus includes a waveguide configured to deliver light to a transducer region. The apparatus also includes a plasmonic transducer that has two metal elements configured as side-by-side plates on a substrate-parallel plane with a gap therebetween. The gap is disposed along the substrate-parallel plane and has an input end disposed proximate the transducer region and an output end. The transducer is configured to provide a surface plasmon-enhanced near-field radiation pattern proximate the output end in response to the light received by the waveguide.
