A low pressure Ultra Violet (UV) light source produces a high intensity output proportional to the inside diameter and length of a arc discharge column. The light source includes a cathode and anode contained within a high density ceramic body and a sapphire window mounted in line with the arc discharge column. The anode is in line with the arc column at the end opposite the sapphire window, and the cathode is disposed to an area outside the arc discharge column to which the arc moves through an aperture in the side of the arc discharge column structure. As the electrons move through the low pressure gas ionization of the gas occurs releasing photons in the UV region of the spectrum. The sum of the photons generated at each location along the arc discharge column produces the high intensity UV radiation that exits the lamp through a sapphire window.

The lighting system improves lighting efficiency of the main discharge material filled in the light emitting unit (11, 13), and has an eco-friendly characteristic by excluding an environmental contaminant such as mercury.

The black paste composition comprises about 5 to 25 parts by weight of a heat resistant black pigment; about 5 to 20 parts by weight of a glass powder; about 25 to 30 parts by weight of a binder; about 5 to 15 parts by weight of a photopolymerization monomer; about 1 to 10 parts by weight of a photopolymerization initiator; and about 20 to 35 parts by weight of a solvent. In the black paste composition and the upper plate of the plasma display panel using the same according to the present invention, the contact resistance between the bus electrode and the transparent electrode is low, the black matrix has a high black rate, and the manufacturing cost is reduced since the black matrix is made of the black paste composition containing MnCo2O4.
