    摘要: A method for maximizing a fuel efficiency of an engine includes the steps of providing an engine including a plurality of cylinder bores formed therein, disposing at least one first permanent magnet on a piston and at least one second permanent magnet on the throw, disposing a plurality of electromagnets in the engine block, selectively attracting and repelling the at least one first and second permanent magnets with a magnetic field of the electromagnets to affect a motion of the piston in respect of the engine block and deactivating and reactivating the plurality of cylinder bores in a desired sequence by stopping a flow of fuel thereto and a flow of electrical energy to a spark plug for a deactivated cylinder bore without deactivating an intake valve or an exhaust valve for the deactivated cylinder bore.

    摘要: A spark plug and a method of manufacturing the same, where the spark plug has a metal shell, an insulator, a center electrode, a ground electrode, and a gasket located over a threaded portion of the shell and used to seal the spark plug against a cylinder head. Once the gasket is attached on the spark plug, it is shrunk to become a post-formed gasket with an inner diameter that prevents the post-formed gasket from slipping over a threaded portion of the metallic shell. This process may be carried out with a collet type machine that produces a post-formed gasket that is flat and has a substantially uniform thickness, which can improve the sealability of the gasket. This may be important when the spark plug is installed in a cylinder head made from a lost foam casting process or other process that creates a somewhat porous sealing surface.

The corona ignition device comprises a central electrode, an insulator into which the central electrode is plugged, a housing into which the insulator is plugged, a coil body onto which a coil from a winding wire is wound, which coil is connected to the central electrode, and a contact element that is located in a recess of the coil body and contacts the wire. It is provided that the contact element has a slot that runs in the longitudinal direction of the coil body, and the coil body has an opening in a side wall of the recess, wherein the wire is fed through the opening in the side wall of the recess and is held in the slot of the contact element.

    摘要: A spark plug (20) includes an insulator seat angle (αi) of 35° to 50° and an increased insulator thickness (ti) in selected areas around the insulator seat (28). The insulator seat angle (αi) is greater than or equal to a boundary value provided by the equation: 90°−a cos [1−(R1−R2)÷(R4+R5)], and preferably not greater than 150% of the boundary value. The radii (R1, R2, R3, R4, R5) can be adjusted to maximize R4 while maintaining an acceptable R2. A gasket is compressed between the insulator (22) and shell (58), and the inner gasket thickness (tg2) is greater than or equal to 70% of the outer gasket thickness (tg1).

    摘要: An ignition device for an internal combustion engine and method of construction therefore includes a housing with an insulator secured therein. A center electrode is mounted within the insulator. A ground electrode extends from the housing with a portion of the ground electrode defining a spark gap across from the center electrode. The center electrode has a firing tip, wherein a resistance weld joint initially bonds the firing tip to the center electrode and a continuous bead of overlapping first weld pools formed substantially from the material of the firing tip further bonds the firing tip to the electrode. A continuous bead of overlapping second weld pools formed radially outwardly from the first weld pools forms a rounded shoulder surface extending from the first weld pools to an outer surface of the center electrode.
