Such a structure permits single mode propagation over a relatively wide frequency band. Radiation losses due to coupling of the desired mode to the substrate modes and the conductors are furthermore reduced and the polarization of the dominant mode is such as to render said structure relatively insensitive to small deviations from parallelism among the different interfaces. This invention is directed to antenna structures formed from this type of multi-layer dielectric slab structure.

    摘要: High speed, integrated optical directional coupler modulators utilize spaces of the order of one micron between waveguides. While one micron delineation of the waveguides can be readily obtained using conformable mask exposure techniques, diffraction effects become significant using thick glass masks required to delineate the electrodes. To overcome this problem, a two-process electrode fabrication procedure is employed. In accordance with the procedure a first pair of electrodes are deposited by a lithographic process. However, this yields a gap between electrodes that is wider than the desired gap. To reduce this distance, the process is repeated with the gap forming region of the mask laterally displaced. The result yields an electrode pattern with the desired spacing and thickness.

    摘要: An improved reflection type phase modulator having reduced temperature sensitivity and reduced distortion includes two three-port circulators coupled to form a four-port circulator. A first port is connected to a first phase modulator and a second port is coupled by means of a quarter wavelength transmission line to a second phase modulator, the transmission line being resonant at an applied unmodulated carrier frequency. The first and second phase modulators are coupled to receive a modulation signal. A third port of the circulator is coupled to receive the applied unmodulated carrier frequency and the fourth port provides a signal at the unmodulated carrier frequency which is phase modulated in response to the modulation signal.

    摘要: The specification discloses a semiconductor magnetic modulator for use with a moving target indicator radar transmitter and which utilizes a plurality of charging capacitors for receiving charging current from a direct current power source and discharging in parallel. Silicon controlled rectifiers are connected to each of the charging capacitors and are operable to triggering signals to cause said capacitors to discharge at a predetermined time. A de-Q-ing circuit is connected to each of the charging capacitors in order to sense the voltage level across the capacitors and to dissipate voltage above a predetermined threshold level. The charging capacitors discharge through a hold-off inductor and through a switching transformer to a pulse forming network including a second charging capacitor. Compression occurs in the pulse charging network and a resulting high power modulator pulse is applied from the network to a klystron power tube in a moving target indicator radar transmitter. The power supply for the modulator utilizes an SCR bridge A.C. to D.C. convertor. An automatic delay circuit is also provided in order to provide a stable radar modulator trigger signal to the modulator circuit.

    摘要: Disclosed is a Gunn-effect device comprising, for example, a crystal of n-type gallium arsenide having alloyed contacts (e.g., indium and gold) which is switched from one frequency of oscillation to another by controlling the incident light while maintaining an appropriate temperature and bias voltage. It is believed that trap zones which are localized within the crystal by virtue of introducing acceptor impurities account for a frequency of oscillation different from the usual transit-time frequency. The Gunn domains and the incident light are made to dynamically perturb the trap system so as to achieve a nonequilibrium condition.
