    Abstract: A communication device includes a master component and a plurality of slave components. The master component comprises an antenna. The plurality of slave components comprises a first antenna, a second antenna, and a frequency converter. The first antenna communicates with an external device by a beamforming operation on a first carrier frequency, and receives first signals from the external device. The second antenna communicates with the antenna of the master component by the beamforming operation on a second carrier frequency, and receives second signals from the master component. The frequency converter converts the first signals received through the second antenna from the second carrier frequency of the external device into the first carrier frequency of the first master component and converts the second signals received through the first antenna from the first carrier frequency of the first master component into the second carrier frequency of the external device.

    Abstract: Apparatuses and methods for simultaneously operating as a wireless radio and monitoring the local frequency spectrum. For example, described herein are wireless radio devices that use a secondary receiver to monitor frequencies within the operating band and prevent or avoid interferers, including in particular half-IF interferers. The systems, devices, and methods described herein may adjust the intermediate frequency in a superheterodyne receiver to select an intermediate frequency that minimizes interference. In particular, described herein are apparatuses and methods that use a second receiver which is independent of the first receiver and may be connected to the same receiving antenna to monitor the geographically local frequency spectrum and may detect spurious interferers, allowing the primary receiver to adjust the intermediate frequency and avoid spurious interferes.

    Abstract: Apparatus for use in a communications satellite can include a first mixer arranged to mix and down-convert a received signal in an input frequency range with a first local oscillator LO signal so that a signal within the received signal at a center frequency of a first frequency range is converted to an intermediate frequency IF, a bandpass filter having a passband with a center frequency at the IF arranged to filter the mixed signal such that the filter bandwidth defines the width of the first frequency range, and a second mixer arranged to mix the filtered IF signal with a second LO signal to up-convert the IF signal to an output frequency range. One of the first and second LO signals is a mixed LO signal obtained by mixing the other one with a third LO signal, and the output frequency range is different from the input frequency range.

    Abstract: Systems and methods for utilizing millimeter-wave radio components in synthesizing microwave signals. A first up-conversion frequency generated using millimeter-wave radio components is used to up-convert a baseband signal into a first millimeter-wave signal, which is then down-converted into a microwave signal using a second and lower down-conversion frequency generated using additional millimeter-wave radio components. Using millimeter-wave conversion frequencies allows for tight integration of multiple transmission and reception chains while facilitating good coexistence of different microwave channels, and further allows for a wide span of frequencies over which microwave transmissions can be made.

    Abstract: A decentralized communication device is provided that facilitates optimal positioning and orientation of one or more antennas for wireless communication with external devices. The decentralized communication device includes one or more master components and one or more slave components. The master and the slave components are physically separate and communicate wirelessly. In some embodiments the slave acts as a carrier frequency translator between the master and an external wireless device, where it communicates with the external device using a first frequency and communicates with the master using a second frequency which is different from the first frequency. In another embodiment the slave has most or all the physical layer to do the digital coding, digital modulation, data framing, data formatting and data packetization for communicating with an external device, in which case digital coding and digital modulation is distributed between the master and the slave.
