摘要: An optical transmission device and an optical communication system being capable of coping with various installation forms of a transponder in a unit of optical fiber transmission path are provided. The optical transmission device is installed inside a station building. First and second interface units are connected to first and second fiber transmission paths accommodated in a submarine optical fiber cable. A first fiber transmission path mediates an optical signal to be transmitted between the first interface unit and a first transponder. A second fiber transmission path mediates an optical signal to be transmitted between the second interface unit and a second transponder.

摘要: Described herein are photonic communication platforms that can overcome the memory bottleneck problem, thereby enabling scaling of memory capacity and bandwidth well beyond what is possible with conventional computing systems. Some embodiments provide photonic communication platforms that involve use of photonic modules. Each photonic module includes programmable photonic circuits for placing the module in optical communication with other modules based on the needs of a particular application. The architecture developed by the inventors relies on the use of common photomask sets (or at least one common photomask) to fabricate multiple photonic modules in a single wafer. Photonic modules in multiple wafers can be linked together into a communication platform using optical or electronic means.

摘要: The quantum relay and quantum signal source exploit quantum properties of photon streams. A pair of spatially separated and polarization-entangled photon streams is used. The pair collectively exist in a quantum superposition state by virtue of their mutual entanglement. In the relay, an encoder establishes a modulation control signal corresponding to the information to be conveyed. An optical quantum circuit is placed in the path of one of the pair of streams, so that the first stream passes through it. The optical quantum circuit alters the quantum polarization state of the photon passing through it based on the control signal. In this way information is encoded into quantum probability distributions of the superposition state through quantum parallelism and quantum interference, whereby information is conveyed in the photon streams. In the signal source a second information source is used to modulate the other of the pair of streams, thus enhancing the information density of the system, by encoding both in the probability distribution and in the correlation of the photon arrival times.

摘要: The present disclosure describes a network including two levels of switching: a first level including wavelength selective switching via a first type of switching module, and a second level including fiber level switching via a second type of switching module. The two levels of switching allow for maintaining wavelength selective switching between transmission directions while introducing fiber selective switching between network degrees of the same transmission direction. The first type of switching module is configured to transmit and receive optical signals having a first set of wavelengths at a first network degree at a first direction in a node of a network. The second type of switching module is configured to transmit and receive the optical signals from the first type of switching module and route the optical signals at the first network degree to a second network degree in a second direction.

摘要: A method for calculating configuration of an optical transmission network includes: acquiring an initial value of an input power of an optical cable; based on the initial value, obtaining an output power of each channel at an end of a section of the optical cable according to a loss of the optical cable; taking the output power of each channel at the end of the section as a boundary condition to calculate the input power of each channel at the section based on an amount of optical power transferred from a high-frequency channel to a low-frequency channel due to an SRS effect; and calculating a first parameter value of an optical amplifier of the section using the input power of each channel at the section and the output power of each channel at the end of a preceding section of the section.

A method includes coupling a first light source with a first wavelength to the first waveguide, increasing electric current through the heaters until a first one of the ring-shaped waveguides resonates, assigning the first one of the ring-shaped waveguides to the first wavelength, resetting the electric current through the heaters to the initial electric current, coupling a second light source with a second wavelength to the first waveguide wherein the second wavelength is different from the first wavelength, increasing the electric current through the heaters until a second one of the ring-shaped waveguides resonates wherein the second one of the ring-shaped waveguides is different from the first one of the ring-shaped waveguides, and assigning the second one of the ring-shaped waveguides to the second wavelength.
