A base station serving the UE may determine a type of content that will be communicated between the base station and the UE and, based at least on the determined type of content, may decide whether to apply carrier aggregation and, when the decision is to apply carrier aggregation, determine, based at least on the determined type of content, how many component carriers to aggregate together in the carrier aggregation service of the UE. The base station may then modify an air interface connection with the UE to encompass the determined number of component carriers.

The method includes estimating, by a first subscriber identity module (SIM) of multiple SIMs of the multi-subscription device, search time information required for identifying one cell and margin time information for cell search, where the first SIM is associated with a first radio access technology (RAT); obtaining a discontinuous reception (DRX) period of a second SIM associated with a second RAT in the multi-subscription device; determining a number of cells to be searched during the DRX period based on the estimated information; performing a measurement for one or more cells to be searched based on the number of the cells; ranking the one or more cells based on the measurement; and initiating a cell search on one or more cells having a highest signal strength during the DRX period.

Enhanced Inter-Cell Interference Coordination (eICIC) operations are performed to mitigate interference between a first access node and a second access node. The client node monitors first and second channels corresponding to the first and second access nodes. The client node receives restricted measurement data transmitted on the first channel, which is then processed to schedule cessation of monitoring the first channel to reduce power consumption and thereby conserve battery resources.
