Abstract: An enamel paste composition comprising: glass frit; a pigment; and an organic carrier medium; wherein the glass frit comprises at least two glass frits including a first glass frit and a second glass frit, and wherein the first glass frit has a larger particle size and a higher glass transition temperature than the second glass frit. Also described is a method of forming an enamel coating comprising: depositing the enamel paste composition on a substrate; and firing the enamel paste to form an enamel coating on the substrate, the enamel coating comprising a heterogeneous frit microstructure with particles of the first frit embedded in a matrix of second frit.

Abstract: A paste for coating a glass substrate which, after coating, is subjected to firing and chemical strengthening by ion exchange to form an enamel coated, chemically strengthened glass product, the paste comprising: an organic carrier fluid; a first inorganic frit having a first softening point; and a second inorganic frit having a second softening point, wherein the softening point of the first inorganic frit is higher than the softening point of the second inorganic frit such that the second inorganic frit can be softened and sintered at a temperature lower than the softening point of the first inorganic frit, and wherein the first inorganic frit comprises an exchangeable ion content which can be ion exchanged to chemically strengthen the first inorganic frit.

Abstract: An enamel paste composition is provided for fabricating a coated glass article comprising a glass substrate, an enamel layer disposed on the glass substrate, and a thin coating having a thickness of no greater than 0.5 micrometres disposed on the enamel layer. The enamel paste composition is formulated such that it provides a smooth surface and does not crystallize during processing of the coated glass article, thereby improving the quality of the thin coating disposed thereon.
