    Abstract: An articulating bed incorporates a support frame (10) with a head end, a foot end and having side frame members (31). A carriage (12) having a seat support (14) is carried by the frame, mounted with wheels (25) engaging the side frame members to translate from a first position through a range progressing toward the head end to a fully translated position. An upper body support (16) is rotatably connected to the carriage and carries a mattress support (15). At least one telescoping rotation strut (18) is attached at a first end and rotates through an axle pivotally attached to the side frame members. The telescoping rotation strut engages at a second end the upper body support. At least one fixed length rotation arm (20) is carried at a first end by a rotating tube (22) and pivotally attaches to the upper body support at a second end. The rotating tube is mounted on wheels (23) constrained in a track (24) and translates laterally in the track to contact a track end proximate the head end of the frame at a termination of a first range of motion. The telescoping strut approaches a vertical orientation and transfers reaction forces resulting from translation of the carriage to the fixed length rotation arm, whereupon the telescoping rotations struts extend.

    Abstract: An environmental control assembly has a case configured for attachment to a bottom surface of an articulation assembly. One or more inlet fans is attached to a first wall of the case. An inlet plenum receives air provided by the one or more fans and extends from the first wall to a central chamber. An outlet plenum extends from the central chamber to a second wall of the case. A first pair of outlet ports extends from the outlet plenum proximate the central chamber through side walls of the case and a second pair of outlet ports extends from the outlet plenum distal the central chamber through side walls of the case. A cylindrical flow diffuser is positioned in the outlet plenum between the side walls and controls airflow into the first pair of ports and second pair of ports, each of said outlet ports configured for attachment to one of a plurality of flexible air conduits.

    Abstract: An articulating assembly for an adjustable bed has side supports (12a, 12b) received on side rails (14a, 14b) of a bed frame (16). A first head end axle (20) extends between the side supports and a second foot end axle (22) extending between the side supports defining a fixed center section (24). An upper body support frame (26) has a first torque tube (28) concentrically received on the first axle. A thigh support frame (34) has a second torque tube (36) concentrically received on the second axle. A first actuator assembly (42) supported in the center section is operably attached to rotate the first torque tube to articulate the upper body support frame over a range of positions from a horizontal unarticulated position to a fully articulated position. A second actuator assembly (50) supported in the center section is operably attached to rotate the second torque tube to articulate the thigh support frame over a range of positions from a horizontal unarticulated position to a fully articulated position.
