Each cutting element comprising a substrate and a poly crystalline diamond material affixed to the substrate at an interface. The poly crystalline diamond material comprising a raised cutting surface comprising at least two cutting edges, a recess in a center of the raised cutting surface, and transition surfaces between the at least two cutting edges of the raised cutting surface and a side surface of the cutting element. The disclosure also includes a method of manufacturing a downhole tool comprising: forming a drill bit, blades, and cutting elements. Forming the cutting elements comprises forming a raised cutting surface comprising at least two cutting edges, forming a recess in a center of the raised cutting surface and forming transition surfaces between the raised cutting surface and a side surface of the cutting element.

    摘要: A rotary drill bitb (200A) for use with a horizontal directional drill string. A coupler (206) at a proximal axial end is configured to attach the rotary drill bit to a drill head at a distal end of the drill string. A cutting portion at a distal axial end is provided with a plurality of vanes (204) with respective cutters that operate to cut a hole in earth when the rotary drill bit is rotated about a central axis. The plurality of vanes project radially outwardly from a surface of the cutting portion such that the surface forms respective troughs (214) circumferentially interspersed with the plurality of vanes. A plurality of engagement features (212a) is positioned axially within the cutting portion and radially inward of an outer cutting diameter to facilitate attachment of a product pullback device (1000) between the plurality of vanes without removing the rotary drill bit, or any portion thereof, from the drill head.

    摘要: A drill bit includes multiple cutting devices and a microelectronics unit. Each cutting device of the multiple cutting devices includes a cutting layer formed to cut a rock formation and a capacitive sensor disposed adjacent the cutting layer. The capacitive sensor is configured to generate an electric field across the cutting layer and to transmit a signal corresponding to a voltage associated with the electric field. The microelectronics unit of the drill bit is configured to receive the signal from the capacitive sensor of each cutting device of the multiple cutting devices such that the microelectronics unit receives multiple signals and to determine an indicator of mechanical wear of the drill bit based on a change in the voltage associated with the electric field across the cutting layer of each cutting device of the multiple cutting devices using the multiple signals.
